Music That Is Good

Music is universal, a language almost everyone-if not everyone-speaks, and enjoys the sensation it brings. It's that aspect of our lives that you could consider constant and ever-engaging. For some reason, everyone is tuned or connected to it one way or the other; from the music at home to the ones on the streets blasting through the speakers, and to those low ones through the earpiece or earbuds, or other various means of listening.

It's hard to go by a day for many without listening to music. That's how it has become so attached to our lives that it could be a daily routine or activity to listen to music. When carrying out a task, engaging in an activity, walking on the road, travelling, and down to some everyday tasks like carrying out a domestic chore such as doing the dishes, cooking, and cleaning, you could always find music in the background. It's fair to say that it has evolved to become much of a companion.

Of course, music could be said to be all that, but we don't just listen to any music, and with that, you would find that people have their taste and what they perceive as ‘good music’. I've come across a diverse number of music lovers, and I can say their taste for what ‘good music’ is varies. While for some all that mattered was some great sounds put together and blasting, to others it was the beats and the work of the producer that mattered most, and to others probably the genre.

The aforementioned are qualities that could feature well for ‘good music’ indeed, however, I find myself gravitating more towards what not many might consider for good music, arguably. The lyrics; matter the most to me, while not negating or clamping down the others. What the artiste presents in his or her words is what makes my best definition of good music. Music has been mistaken for entertainment alone, but I believe it's more, and if there's more to it then the message matters a lot. Music is a message beyond a medium for entertainment.

The sounds could be there, blasting well, fine and so amazing, and the beats could be so overwhelmingly good, but once the lyrics communicate an ill message, I don't go there. It's not good music for me-yes, my perspective and considerations. The message matters most before all the other features that are put together to make great music. There are songs and artistes I don't listen to, because they don't seem edifying to me. I try to get the message beyond the melody.

Music is therapeutic, music is a healer, music is a refresher, music is a message. So, when I tend to not find the lyrics rich and capable of affecting lives or a life positively, it doesn't really count as a good one to me. I mean if that isn't satisfied, then music will only be an entertainment, nothing more, not a therapy, not a healer and not a refresher.
