Is Photography Art?

in Photography Lovers22 hours ago

My answer to this question is, it can be, if you make it to be, or if you see it that way. Obviously judging what type of photography is art and what is not, is not so easy and again, it depends on the subject. With everyone having a camera incorporated into their mobile phone, everyone considers themselves photographers, but you need more than just a mobile phone camera to be a photo artist. You need some knowledge (quite a lot actually) and practice too.

The reason I love these photo exhibitions is because I see so many ideas that can help me get better as a photographer. Being open to learning and growing in this regard is key. A good artist learns and experiments till the end. Tunnel vision can take you nowhere and taking some courses won't make you a good or professional photographer either. You need more for that. Anyway, let's see what I have prepared for you today and let's see if these photos can be considered art, or not.

This was a solo exhibition of Réka Fekete, a very talented photographer in my opinion, but you can judge it for yourself.

Rushing To Evening Mass

There's something fascinating in such photos and have seen plenty over the years. These medieval churches were all built on hilltops for a specific reason, as back then these served as fortresses as well. During tough times, the whole village found refuge in these buildings. The towers and bell tower are also high and were used to monitor movement in the area as these offer the best view.

Taking a photo from a lower point is the best idea, if you want to emphasize the importance and religious meaning of these constructions. I'm not a big fan of purple, but this is a fantastic shot.

Chicken Slaughter

This is a common activity for homesteaders, you grow your own food and prepare it as well. What I like here again, is the spot and the angle from where the photo was taken. Bonus, look at the happiness on the man's face, that is genuine and priceless. Real, not fake as you get on camera from people these days.

Allies

This is a good title and matches this fantastic shot, but I could also call it "Man's best friend" as these animals count as family members.

Carnival Burials

Carnivals are pretty rare in Transylvania, but some villages still have the old tradition, very different from what you see in Italy or South America though. However, at these events you can capture a lot of good photos with genuine emotions.

The Last Rake Maker

I keep saying along with these generation/people, a lot of crafts are going to disappear. These days not many are making rakes manually. It's easier to just buy it. Important to note here is again how the photo was taken, through the holes of the rake. Brilliant idea and also look at that workshop.

One of my dreams is to work with wood, design small souvenir pieces using cut off wood pieces, but for that, you need a workshop.

Symbiosis

That cow means the livelihood for so many. Look at the happiness on the man's face.

On The Way To The Lord

Perfectly framed and aligned photo. You need to have a good eye to see the opportunity in places like this.

Charcoal Burners

I'll let this for you as a riddle. I'll let you tell me what you see here and where the focus is or what is the focus on. Let's see :) Let me know in a comment.

This is it for today. I hope you can learn something from these photos :)

Yes, these photographs are definitely art, and it’s true that it’s not enough just to take a course; it takes much more than that, vision, above all, and the ability to capture the soul, and more. I like them all, because they all have something special about them, especially the ones with people in them.

One of my favourites is this one; I found myself staring at it for quite a while.

And in the last one… it’s water, isn’t it?

Photography is definitely an art form, and studying the work of great photographers truly helps me get closer to understanding it. Looking at paintings can improve your skills in painting, but to create powerful photographs, you need to develop an eye by studying the work of recognized photographers.

So far, I’ve realized that the two most important things are perspective and light. Once I truly learn how to understand and capture those two elements, then I can move on to the finer details.

I really enjoyed your post today! 👍
