steel rusts pretty much everywhere but being so close to the sea it rusts faster than normal. normally that's not a good thing unless you're looking for photo opportunities. then suddenly it's a good thing. luckily it's not hard to find, especially in the park that was a naval base back in the days of wooden sailing ships. there are plenty of historic remnants lying about and many of them have at least some steel.

in more recent times the shoreline near the wharves was lined with large stone blocks. to keep them stable they were joined with steel bars extending into holes drilled in the stone
