Flowers have always been a symbol of beauty, as well as the antithesis of life and death. They also reduce stress, increase people's well-being, positivity, resilience, and creativity.
The truth is that while I was in the Guamuhaya mountain range, the most important mountainous area in central Cuba, I took the opportunity to take photos of flowers and plants, because in this tropical area by the sea and cooled by the Caribbean breeze, the flowers take on spectacular hues.
However, I'll start with two important ones. One is the Hedychium coronarium, known as the butterfly flower and Cuba's national flower, with its beautiful whiteness amidst all the greenery. Women during the War of Independence against Spain wore them in their ears to hide messages.
This other one is known for its connection to a Yoruba deity from the Regla de Ocha in Cuba, which believers call Flor de Shangó, lord of lightning, thunder, justice, dance, and fire. He is the owner of drums, dance, and music.
There is also the Pacific Ocean, which is linked to the sea goddess Yemaya or the Virgin of Regla in Catholicism.
