Greetings and have a great week! There are beautiful voices, but there are exceptional voices, and one of these voices is the one I want to share with everyone today on this MUSICAL MONDAY, the wonderful initiative created by @eugelys, where we can share our musical memories and experiences.
The voice I've brought you today is that of Cecilia Todd, a Venezuelan singer with an extensive musical career. Her soprano voice is beautiful; as my husband says, it's "crystal clear," perfectly in tune, melodic, and exceptional. Throughout her 55-year career (she's still active), she has performed songs from Venezuelan folklore and other countries. I was fortunate enough to see her live several times in the 1980s, and each time it was a wonderful experience to attend her concerts. She sounded just as good, and perhaps even better, live than in the studio. Hearing her songs on the radio or on my home stereo was truly lovely. With that said, let's look at my three songs for today.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
My first song today, performed by CECILIA TODD, It's a Lara-style meringue, and I mean the beautiful “ACIDITO”, written by the composer and musician from Lara, ADELIS FREITES (who passed away in 2020), the founder of the Venezuelan group “CAROTA, ÑEMA Y TAJÁ”. Here, Cecilia Todd's lovely voice shines through masterfully. The song itself is exquisitely beautiful, both in its lyrics and music, and it's one of those songs that stays with you, etched in your soul and heart, and is always a pleasure to hear, a balm for the soul, even when it deals with heartbreak. Here I share the audio of this beautiful melody, which is included on the 2005 album “En vivo en Argentina” (Live in Argentina). I'm absolutely certain you'll enjoy this musical gem.
My second song today is a polo from Margarita Island, written by the Venezuelan composer (from the state of Falcón), Constantino Ramones, and titled "La Embarazada del Viento" (The Pregnant Woman of the Wind). It's a song with very witty and funny lyrics that my husband loves; he even laughs when he hears it because it reminds him of stories his mother told him that were very similar to the song's theme (you have to hear it!). Cecilia Todd's voice shines exceptionally in this performance. Below is the audio from the 1993 album "Una Sola Vida Tengo" (I Have Only One Life), where it was remastered. Cecilia Todd originally recorded this song in 1973.
And to close out this lovely MUSICAL MONDAY, I'm sharing a song that, according to what I could find on YouTube and the web, is titled “BAMBUCO,” although I have serious doubts that's its title, since Bambuco is a musical genre, not the name of this song. The lyrics are very brief, but they possess immense poetic power, sounding sublime in the voice of CECILIA TODD. I couldn't find any concise information about who composed it, so I won't mention it. It's a song I really like; you'll understand why when you hear it. Here's the audio of this beauty.
