3 Songs About God

Hey everybody, today I have a bit of a unique selection of music.

Y'all mind if I praise the Lord?! ๐Ÿ™

Don't worry, I'm not going to start playing overzealous Christian music or anything like that. But I am going to recommend 3 songs, each with their own unique message about God.

For whatever inexplicable reason, I have been getting the song One Of Us stuck in my head at random ๐Ÿ˜ฉ You may be familiar with it if you were alive in the 90s. It was a popular one-hit wonder because it had such a profound message -- "Oh my gosh, what if God was one of us?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ"

I've never liked this song, and I still don't today. Not because I am not religious, but because I am! ๐Ÿ˜„ And as a Catholic, we are already supposed to recognize that God is one of us. If God created each of us in His image, if we are all reflections of Him, then we are all God.

Even choosing to look at it from a scientific stand point, we all stem from the same life source. A single-cell organism reflects life just as much as us; we just divided cellular more times. But, same life source!

Anyway, hearing one song brought back memories of others, because another great song about God is Running Up That Hill. No no, not the original by Kate Bush, although that version is wonderful. No, we're going to listen to a darker version by Placebo.

When I first heard this song, and more so upon hearing the lyrics, I always thought that it was about death, experiencing loss.

๐ŸŽถ Do you wanna feel how it feels? ๐ŸŽถ

Grief is an indescribable and deeply personal experience, to the point where we are often left telling people that the only way they can understand, is by being in our place.

This is why the

๐ŸŽถ If I only could

Make a deal with God

And get Him to switch our places ๐ŸŽถ

part hits me so deeply; I always thought the narrator was referring to switching places with God. Obviously if someone had the chance to not only switch places with God, but be reunited with their loved ones, perhaps the chance to receive answers even, they would be wasting no time switching places!

Of course, according to Bush, she was referring to her and her partner switching places, because y'know, "men and women are opposites, we'll never understand each other! ๐Ÿ˜ญ" Personally I prefer my interpretation a bit more ๐Ÿ˜„

The last song is probably entirely unheard of, because I can't even remember where I first heard this song! (That's not true -- I do remember! It was a song used in a Kingdom Hearts fan video! ๐Ÿ˜‚)

Now, this song is interesting in the sense that it is written from God's perspective. Rest is a song for anyone who has turned away from God, or has struggled to welcome Him into their lives. Regardless of the spot we are at in life, regardless of how long it takes, God is always waiting and ready to welcome all of us back.

๐ŸŽถ I'll wait as long as it takes

For you to find grace, it's been here all along ๐ŸŽถ

And I will admit, this song helped me get through some very difficult places in my life. There were many times where I thought life meaningless and was disgusted with myself, but the idea of rest kept me going. The idea that someone was witnessing my progress, was proud of me, who understood me without explanation, was a great comfort...

And that was my Three Tune Tuesday! I hope you enjoyed these recommendations. Perhaps one of them took you back to a simpler time ๐Ÿ˜„ Thank you for taking the time to check out the post, enjoy your week! ๐Ÿ‘‹
