On the positive side, their Hive accounts are here to stay permanently in case they wish to resume (actively) using their respective account. ππ !INDEED !HOPE !WEIRD !DIY
Not being able to use the same username for a new Hive account is !INDEED an unfortunate consequence of losing one's private keys. π€―π !WEIRD !HOPE !DIY

It would then be a great idea for a Hive user to make at least two separate secure backups of the private keys of every Hive account (especially the owner key which is used only when changing other private keys) and choose a recovery account which are unlikely to get compromised and whose owner knows you. π§ββοΈπ€ !HOPE !INDEED !WEIRD !DIY

A recovery account of a Hive account will serve as the last line of defense in case a Hive account's owner keys got stolen and changed. π€ The recovery account can either be the same user's another Hive account, or a Hive account owned by another person altogether. π The recovery process must be initiated 30 days when the Hive account's private keys got changed for the first time (so no matter how many times the keys get changed within the 30-day period, it's okay). π !INDEED !HOPE
Using the recovery account is also helpful when the user just changed their own Hive account's private keys and forgot to save their new keys. π€ The same 30-day limit applies. π !WEIRD !DIY
You can change your Hive account's recovery account (which currently is appreciator
) on https://peakd.com/@svanbo/permissions
after clicking the "Recovery Account" tab. π€ Your daughter @claudiavb's recovery account is your own Hive account, while it's #DBuzz for your son @mathiasvb. π

Anyway, I just noticed that your current recovery account doesn't hasn't published any post or comment since September 29, 2020 (about 4.5 years ago), so even if that account still actively makes curation and transfers, I would still recommend that you change it to someone else that you trust (both that they would be willing to help you recover your account, and is knowledgeable enough to keep their own account safe and assist you in the process). π€π€ !HOPE !INDEED !WEIRD !DIY
