RE: Japanese Gold Leaf

in Discovery-itlast year

This is something I've wondered about in passing, but never when I was near a computer and able to research it. Thank you for doing the work and sharing!

Two things boggle my mind about this:

  1. Holy crap I can't imagine the amount of patience and practice it must take to be the person who cuts and places the gold leaf into its final packaging!
  2. How the f*** did anyone ever figure out the recipe for making that paper?! It must have taken tens of thousands of iterations to get it juuuuust right.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I know, right?? In the right mood I think I'd have the patience to do a few sheets. But it would get boring very very quickly. And I completely agree about the paper recipe. I suppose it was just trial and error over many years. I didn't look into the history of the paper, but I can imagine that came with the craft from way back in Egypt and was just continuously refined over the centuries.

You must be killin' it out here!
@willendorfia just slapped you with 1.000 PIMP, @dbooster.
You earned 1.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 1/2 possible people today.
