I've known for quite some time now that my mind doesn't work the same way as other people's. I wouldn't go so far to say it is broken, but I definitely see connections where other people don't. While you might think this is a good thing, I can't say that I have ever found an instance where it made any Earth shaking revelations.
It's not like I am some kind of savant visualizing solutions to some of the greatest problems of the world. I could only hope!
I think I have shared this before, but in the 15 plus years my wife and I have been married, she often needs me to explain how our conversation got from point A to point B.
Actually, that's probably not an accurate pathway. The true pathway in my mind would probably be point a to point b, point b to point c, point c to point q, point q to point j, and then point j back to point d.
I know, it's a curse.
I can't really even give you a great example off the top of my head, I just need you to trust me.
Along with this obscure connection my mind makes between things, I also am amazed at the number of things that pop into my mind.
While you may not be able to relate to my first issue, I am sure many of you can relate to this second one.
How many times have you going about your day when some question pops into your head that you are curious about the answer to. For me, it usually happens when I am driving, but occasionally it happens after I have turned in for the night.
Like I said, that's a pretty common occurrence, but the part I find amazing is what happens next.
So you have this profound question about the life the universe or anything else that you are suddenly confounded by. It can be something as normal as what time does daylight savings start, or something as bizarre as "do house flies pee".
You get on our mobile device or your computer and you pull up your preferred web browser and your favorite search engine. I don't know about you, but it never fails, as I am typing in my off the wall totally silly question, the search engine auto completes my question flawlessly.
While some might argue it's magic, what it tells me is that somewhere, some person at some point asked the exact same question as I did at least once before.
I can't begin to impress on you how comforting it is to know that I am not this totally crazy oddball that I always thought I was. At the very least, I might still be that oddball, but there is at least one person in the world who is just as odd as me.
Go ahead and think back and tell me this hasn't happened to you at least once. Think about that crazy question you were curious about that typed into Google or whatever looking for the answer. Did the search bar autocomplete for you?
Go ahead, think really hard.
I'm right aren't I?
Doesn't it feel good to know you are not alone?
If you still don't believe me, go ahead and think of something really crazy and go ahead and type it into Google and see if someone else has already asked it.
If you feel so inclined, share your question and the short answer in the comments! I'd love to hear some of the crazy things other people ask Google!
