I think companies like Coinbase have likely pumped a lot of money into the crypto lobby over the past couple of years. Although Coinbase is clearly in it for the money as well, there is a good chance some like minded individuals are getting a crypto friendly agenda pushed. As you say though, they can promise you anything when they are trying to get elected.
