This weekend is going to be quite bittersweet for me. While I am excited to head down to Ohio and celebrate my nieces graduation from high school, I also lament that fact that time has passed so quickly and now she is all grown up and ready to tackle the next chapter of her life.
I'm actually writing this post on Thursday as I will likely be on the road or still in bed during my regular posting time. I apologize in advance if I am not as quick to reply tomorrow as usual. This whole weekend is going to be a blur I feel.
I also apologize if anything I write about the markets turns out to reverse between now and then. As I write this, BTC is dancing back and forth between $110K and $111K. I hope that by tomorrow it's much higher than that, but you just never know right!
I think it is fairly safe to say that we are entering new territory here and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw this much green in the charts. It's pretty impressive! I can't help but be a little excited about what the rest of May might bring us. It will be interesting to see if/how the alts follow this current pump.

It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.

I was pretty bummed the other day when we hit 41,000 miles on @mrsbozz's car. Then we his 41014 and I was kicking myself that I missed that as well. Finally, yesterday the car ticked over to 41114 and I was present enough to actually notice it and take a photo. I know I'm not the only one who takes photos like this, but it still feels a little silly when you think about it.
I still have a screenshot of my HIVE wallet value from when HIVE topped $3 last cycle and my wallet was suddenly worth six figures. How much things have changed since then. I've been doing my thing here on HIVE, and now my wallet is almost five times the size it was back then. Maybe not the biggest return on investment for five years of work, but then again...
Coinbase
My regular Coinbase buys hit snag the other day when something broke with the "plaid" service that connects my bank account to my Coinbase account. As far as I know they still haven't pushed through, but it also seems Coinbase is being pretty low key about providing information concerning the outage. If things don't resolve quickly, I am going to have to switch to using my debit card to buying crypto. That might be the smarter play anyway. It will be interesting to see if exchanges like Binance fully open back up to the US with the new administration and legislation. I wouldn't mind having more options. Plus, that 50% HIVE staking on Binance sounds pretty juicy!
Splinterlands
I know I have been expressing my disappointment about Splinterlands a lot lately. I've been trying to look at it from a different perspective and I have been considering consolidating my land. I currently have seven plots across three regions. I'd like to sell off the two that are in separate regions all by themselves and buy two more in the region where my other five lands are.
The problem is, prices are just crazy right now or nobody is selling. I almost wonder if I would have better luck selling the five in the one region and moving to a different one. Briarwood seems to be a popular place and I might have better luck consolidating elsewhere. I am going to have to do a bit of research on that.
Anyone willing to offer some suggestions?
XV
If you are/were an XV token holder on Hive Engine and you haven't heard, the project has wrapped up. this was a project that purchase the top 15 cryptocurrencies according to market cap and then held them through the bear market before selling them this bull market. I held 500 tokens that were purchased at 1 HIVE a piece and I recently exchanged them for 1680 HIVE. That's not too shabby of an investment for doing nothing but holding it. It's definitely a game of patience though. This wasn't a quick 3x on my investment at all.
Despite the "lottery" stories you often associate with crypto, it is certainly more of a long game than I ever imagined. It honestly took me a while to come to terms with that.
Silver and Gold
I was talking to a couple the other day at dinner and I don't remember how, but the subject of silver and gold came up. I think @mrsbozz mentioned something about cryptocurrency and the guy from the other couple mentioned that a friend of his had bought a lot of gold a while ago. Which is funny in itself that he would immediately associate cryptocurrency with precious metals.
It's been interesting how much I have learned since I joined the #silvergoldstackers community. I still wouldn't consider myself a stacker, but it has been fun to learn, grow, and interact with the folks in the community. If you are reading this and you have some silver or gold that you would like to share, I encourage you to write a post about it. The community is always looking for new members and if you are lucky you can participate in the secret santa exchange during Christmas time!
I hope you all have a great weekend. It's the Memorial Weekend holiday in the US this weekend. If you have ever wondered, Veterans Day is when we celebrate our Veterans, Memorial Day is when we celebrate those who died in battle for the freedoms we enjoy. The two occasionally cross over, but they are separate holidays celebrating separate things. I hope you have a safe and enjoyable weekend. Be careful on the roads and try not to burn your eyebrows off manning the grill!
