Who's In, Who's Out?

Although our niece wasn't actually playing this past weekend, that doesn't mean @mrsbozz and I didn't watch our fair share of softball. With the exception of the Indy 500 being on Sunday, the majority of the time the TV was on whether at our hotel or at our in-laws house, we were watching softball. With the Division 2 tournament wrapping up and the Division 1 tournament transitioning to the Women's College World Series, there was a lot of action happening.

Unfortunately, in the pool that the university I got my bachelors degree from was playing, they got knocked out of the running by the #2 team in the nation. Meanwhile, in the other part of the bracket, the #1 team in the nation punched their ticket to the championship game. That means the #1 team is playing the #2 team in the finals. Pretty predictable I guess...

That best of three series is actually still happening, but right now UT Tyler (the number one team) is leading the series 1 to 0. They face Tampa gain today at 3:00 PM and if UT Tyler wins they will be the Division 2 Champion.

Meanwhile, over in Division 1, the last two quads have been established and those double elimination games start tomorrow late in the morning. This is what it looks like right now.

Bracket 1:

  • (2) Oklahoma
  • (3) Florida
  • (6) Texas
  • (7) Tennessee

Bracket 2:

  • (9) UCLA
  • (12) Texas Tech
  • (16) Oregon
  • (unranked) Ole Miss

It was kind of sad to see Liberty eliminated by Oregon in the Super Regionals. Apparently the coaches for Liberty are the daughters of the coach that my niece will be playing for at Radford University. How cool is that?! I think that just goes to show she is going to have a great teacher when she starts there in the fall.

Despite their "lower" ranking, Texas Tech is probably the darling in this tournament. They have pretty much the best pitcher in the world NiJaree Canady, who transferred to Texas Tech from Stanford after they offered her something like 1 million dollars. I'm also pretty bummed that Tennessee knocked out Nebraska, but it is still nice to see Oregon and UCLA in the tournament representing the Big Ten conference. Even if they are relatively new comers.

I look forward to seeing how the rest of the series works out. I'm actually not too busy this weekend for a change, so I might actually get to watch a few of the games!
