It's honestly going to be a bit weird to travel down to Ohio this coming weekend and not watch any softball. My niece's team actually plays tonight in their first game of the post season. There is a really good chance she may have played her final high school game by the time we see her. It will always be a bit sad, but I think she is okay with it. I have feeling her attention is already turning towards summer travel softball and her university career.
Before we get to this weekend though, we still have a lot of Division I and Division II softball happening the NCAA. The Super Regionals are done for Division II and we are now moving along to the Finals. Here is a full rundown of how things panned out in the best of three super regional series.
- Shippensburg eliminated Kutztown
- UT Tyler beat out West Texas A&M
- Central Oklahoma took down AUG SD
- Tampa beat AUM
- Pace advances over Wilmington Delaware
- UNG stunned FRANMA with an upset
- SVSU beat UIndy in tight match up
- Western Washington beat CSUSM
I think the biggest surprise in all of this is Shippensburg who just happen to be the only 4 seed team in their region to make it to the finals. Pretty much every other section of the Super Regionals was won by the number 1 seed team in their respective sections of the bracket. The only other exception is UNG who was a number 2 seed.
We now play another double elimination format until we have the two teams in the final game.
Here is the new seeding for the finals. UT Tyler takes the top spot with Tampa in second, Central Oklahoma coming in third, UNG in fourth, SVSU in fifth, Pace, Shippensburg, and Western Washington holding the 6, 7, and 8 spots respectively.
SVSU finds themselves in a tough bracket with UT Tyler, UNG, and Western Washington.
My hope is that SVSU can find a way to come out on top through this next round. The games start this Thursday at 11:00 AM. I might not be able to give you an update right away, but I will do my best to keep you in the loop!
