Hello everyone, I’m sure most of you know me as the Environmentalist always involved in upcycling or diy projects. Yes, I am back again with another upcycling project and this time we’re doing it with old books. I don’t know what you do with your old books but in my house, we keep them till someone wants them. I could literally search for my class one books and still find them even though I have completed university. The funny part is these are books I won’t ever need in my life but my mom(a teacher) never wants us to get discard them.
I just decided to upcycle some of them since they’ve been abandoned for years and won’t even ever be used again.
In today’s project, I decided to make a wallpaper from these old books and since valentine is approaching, I decided to use heart shapes for the design.
The materials I used;
- Cover from the old books
- coloured papers
- a pair of scissors
- paper glue
- a pen
- cellotape(improvision)
Step 1
I removed the back cover from two books because I wanted the wallpaper to be a little bigger. I then joined them together using a cello tape.
Step 2
I now divided and cut the coloured papers into two using a pair scissors. I went ahead to fold that half into two again. I then drew half heart shapes on them with a pen and cut the heart shapes from the papers.
Step 3
I now glued the heart shapes onto the cover in no particular order. Getting to the ending,I realized I had taken only a little more than half of the cover which looked like a beautiful design and I loved it.
Our pretty wallpaper on the wall.
I really enjoyed making this and I’m glad I did this upcycling project. These little projects make me feel fulfilled as an Environmentalist. At least instead of hurting the environment by burning them, I got to make something beautiful for my room. I don’t know if you have old books that you plan on burning but if you do, why don’t you think of upcycling them just like I did? Cool right?
Anyway, I’m excited about my new wallpaper and thank you so much for sticking with me. I hope you like it too.
