Genesis League Goals Update: New Card Designs is Live!

in Genesis League Goals3 days ago (edited)

Hello soccer and #sports fans! It's been a long time since I posted about Genesis League Goals. Genesis League Goals (GLG) is a turn based soccer management game developed by the co-creator of Splinterlands, @aggroed . In GLG, players can collect coach and player cards similar to Splinterlands where you collect archons and unit cards. In my last post, I mentioned that there will be new card designs after the game lost images following the expiration of its licensing agreement with Major League Soccers Players Association (MLSPA). The expiration of image rights caused the official MLSPA photos to be removed from the game, leaving blank placeholders on the player cards. Consequently, without images, it made the cards less appealing to collect.

The New Card Designs

To resolve the loss of images, the GLG team created new player images using a combination of AI generated and custom designed avatars. These updated visuals are now live, improving the overall look and feel of the game. The new images which feature various nationalities, not only revitalizes the game's visual experience but also broadens its global appeal.

Coach Cards

Similar to archons in #splinterlands, coaches grant buffs to the team. Coach cards provide a diverse range of buffs and similar to Splinterlands, the more and better buffs, the more expensive the card. Each coach card has unique abilities that can enhance specific aspects of gameplay, such as passing accuracy, stamina management, or morale boosts. These abilities are activated based on in game situations, allowing for dynamic adjustments to your team's strategy. For more information on coach card abilities, please refer to the game tutorial.

Here are some examples of coach card abilities.

Player Cards

Player cards are similar to units in Splinterlands. They are the cards you will use in playing the game. There are four types of player cards: Midfielder (MF), Forward (FW), Defender (DF) and Goalkeeper (GK). The value of each card will depend on their stats and how those stats will be useful in their position. For example, Midfielders with a high passing and dribbling stats will be great while a defender with a high shooting stat not much so.

My Thoughts

The GLG and #arcadecolony team led by @aggroed has been busy churning out updates and new games such #moonkarts, #hyperrailblaster and #stakehouseden. In GLG, the card images are a great feature and makes collecting and playing with the cards more fun and appealing. While they are not actual players, this solution makes sense as it drives down the cost. On the other hand, it would be better if the cards are action shots like a player hitting a ball instead of mere portraits. These are AI-generated images so might just as well go all out.
