Birthday Tradition

It's a new week again and also a beautiful day as my younger sister clocks a year older today. Every August 4 is this damsel's day. Days ago before her birthday, I requested she go to a studio to take nice pictures and she mustn't send me boring ones to upload, hehehe. She said she didn't have money for that.

Somebody that I know, she isn't willing to use her money to do something for herself except she gets from people just like me some years ago when I depended on my mom to get me everything I needed down to the pants I wore because I didn't want to spend my money. When death took her away, and realising there wasn't anyone to replace her, I tightened the belt of my trousers and faced life squarely.

I asked how old she would be on her birthday and she said 21 years, I couldn't believe this little girl of yesterday is now an adult who is capable of taking responsibility on her own. I forced her to take pictures at the studio, she is also lucky to have a big brother who is my younger brother who edits pictures and videos since he is into photography and that's his skill. Yesterday, she sent me her pictures which she told me the photographer took raw photos of her while she sent them to her brother to edit. That was how she was able to get these lovely pictures.

At first, I couldn't believe it was her because she was someone who is robust with her tummy shooting out. We'd warned her to be careful of what she eats so she doesn't become obese later. Her shape is now okay and looks beautiful. I can beat my chest a hundred times because of how beautiful we are in the family, or aren't we? 😌🙂

The 'once a small girl' I used to beat and send on errands every time without noticing how tired she was and how I would always shout at her because I wanted her to be like a machine that doesn't rest and should deliver things as soon as I sent her. When I remember those times, I laugh seeing her now and how she has grown to become mature and not that little last born she would claim to be. Of course, she is the last born and should be treated like a small kid but I would always remind her she is no longer that baby girl again since she has crossed the big 20.

There is a tradition we have embraced among my siblings and me. We are five so, we tend to contribute some amount on our birthdays and send it to each of us. I am the first person to always celebrate her birthday every year in the family and that's because it falls in January. When I celebrated mine, my big and immediate sisters sent me some money and I felt like every day should be my birthday because I got a huge amount of money from them.

The next person is my big sister whose birthday falls in February. Two weeks before her birthday, my immediate younger sister and I decided to surprise her while leaving our two younger siblings out because they are students and shouldn't be tasked with any money. We thought over what we could do for her and finally settled on sending her money to get whatever she wanted.

When she celebrated her birthday last year, we contributed money to surprise her with a smartwatch of which she was extremely happy because it was something she wanted to get for herself but we came on time. Also, we ordered a cake for her, which was to show how grateful we have been to her for being the best big sister we ever wished for.

Knowing she would be travelling out of the country the following month, we sent her money to take herself out which she did. She was so excited that day as she wasn't expecting anything from us.

Then comes the month of April with three people celebrating their birthdays; my dad (28th), younger brother (29th) and younger sister (30th). They also got birthday gifts and it was a day we spent lots of money on the trio. Then came August 4 which is the last birthday for this year, and for us to continue with the tradition of giving birthday gifts, we sent her 15k which is 5k each from myself and two sisters. I know our brother would give her something too since they are both in the same institution and staying together.

If there is one thing I will always be grateful and lucky for, it is the love and unity among us. It is how we have come together to deliberate and do things together because we understand that two heads are better than one. When we come together to celebrate ourselves, I feel so much love and grace from God to fix me into such a wonderful family and have such amazing siblings ❤️

Thanks for your time reading. Looking forward to your interaction.
