Indie games do a good job of putting the art at the forefront with the gameplay, I mean, it is a game people are just going to play due to how they could enjoy the experience. But, in this case, and such a rare one, it affects the experience strongly, due to how vivid it is.
Each specific area has something to say, and they're head scratchers, needing to be scrutinized and theorized, probably for a long time. They're beautiful, haunting images, also build some foreshadowing of what's to come, as well as being creepy to look at. I mean, I'm within a cave or something, like it's all some deep underwater experiment.
There won't be fancy photos, I couldn't even get rid of the UI, so photos will be just gameplay screenshots. There isn't much to omit, because a lot of the screen real estate goes to showing the background environments. Plus, ah, I had some crazy encounters.
Heading to this area after the start of the game, from which I passed a waterfall, climbing ladders, leading to an ominous, then got a firecracker before encountering a Boogeyman. Lot of pathways, I have no idea what the penguins represent here, or why they're in green too.
Small animals, like birds and such are present, they're no threat. But, they look pretty tiny here.
Yeah, the dog pretty much confirms my suspicions, none of these animals exactly fit their representative size and such. It's like they're conveniently placed to stop me going anywhere.
Now, I came upon a tomb of a wolf, with a disc on its mouth. Taking that summons his ghost, can't be killed and would have kept following me everywhere. Till I found this fake disc, using it as a replacement for the real one. And finally, got a frisbee I could use to get me from one place to other.
Would have been nice if the closest save point (the phone) was accessible, now I have to comeback to this area. All because a Boogeyman kept chasing me up and down. It was closed off, and I couldn't find a hole.
Now, understand the perils of quickly running away from my problems, while also going through areas closed by levers, all by using my Frisbee to hit two levels repeatedly in between, and waiting before crossing over. Puzzle designs are obscenely crazy.
The other time I did the same elsewhere, I got surprised by a Boogeyman again. No firecrackers, was running myself to the other end. I think I've retrieved certain important items, but the areas still baffle me, how am I supposed to get across, climb over out-of-reach areas or unlock the peacock? I don't know, those seem like the least of my problems, since the next ones already drove me crazy.
Ah, the shape of a skull, this puzzler. There's these two chimichangas that want me, so whenever I stay on level proximity, they just run towards me. So, I had to do was make them go the opposite direction to hit the buttons. That way, I could open the chest, and move on to the other area.
I hate this bat, he's hard to dodge. Before I lighted the candle in the middle, it was stark dark, I also saw his silhouette but couldn't tell till now. Three ways to get out, but I needed to pass him to progress.
The hell even is this? Man this game keeps getting more obscure.
Frisbee riding to the next level, because there was nothing underneath. Got it, except next level was blocked by giant box, and I could only open another box which gave another different egg. That's it am done.
