Very interesting, I didn't know that. It's kind of cool to have a long vacation nationally, it would be nice to have something like it in the US too. It does sound like a logistics nightmare to visit during the festival, high prices everywhere and sold out tickets. It would only make sense to plan your vacations away from that time period.

Kids always change the equation when it comes to travel. School schedules make it hard to plan big getaways and getting time away from work as well. Once the kids grow up and move away though it becomes very odd to have so much time to yourself! Enjoy it while it lasts!

As things are, I can't see the US government pushing for any new holidays, and I really don't see them making companies follow those holidays even if they do add any new ones. Shame. The long holidays here don't compare to the month or so of holidays they get in Europe, but they sure are nice.
