Adventures On The Matlas Plateau In Dagestan

Greetings, friends.
It's the middle of summer on my calendar, the sun is shining outside, and the thermometer is +28 C, which is considered very hot weather for our region. Last week, a colleague said he wanted to fly to Dagestan in September, but due to the collapse at Moscow airports, he changed his mind about the trip. Yes, there are problems with air travel in Russia right now.
My mind went back to my trip to Dagestan in December 2022.
Around 2020, domestic tourism began to develop in Russia due to the ban on law enforcement officers traveling outside the country. Such republics of the country as Dagestan, Altai, and Karelia became interesting to the inhabitants of the country, but they turned out to be completely unprepared for the influx of tourists.
When we arrived in Dagestan, I noticed that enterprising people were actively building country hotels in places of interest to tourists, and companies emerged that offered active recreation programs for those who wanted to explore new and interesting places.
Typically, tourists are interested in visiting canyons, caves, waterfalls, and other mountainous locations.

The program of our trip to mountainous Dagestan included the location "Stone Path", which is located on the picturesque Matlas plateau at an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level.

Beautiful sunset view. But our goal is not just to look around, but to walk along the path over the abyss under the frozen waterfall. It probably looks even better in summer, and standing under the waterfall will be cool too.

So, let's go. Almost my entire group has already gone ahead. I was a little late in front of the mosque, but usually I am always the last one on such trips.

I thought that the trail ran along the very edge of the cliff, but even with this kind of trail, I needed to be careful, because there is always a danger of tripping, falling and rolling into the canyon.

Our guide said that the trail was equipped with special stairs only a year ago; before that, it was walked without any amenities.

Wow, my friends have already gathered under the fountain and arranged a photoshoot, especially girls like to do this. They took selfies and posed for beautiful photos of themselves in all locations.

Our goal is to get to these cabins. Of course, we could have walked along the road, but we are not looking for easy ways, so we walked along the stone path and climbed back up the stairs to the plateau to sit on the outdoor terrace, drink tea, coffee, and have a light lunch.

Well, it turned out to be a nice day. We were on our way to the bus to return to the hotel, located among the mountains, and enjoy a delicious dinner of local delicacies.

I want to visit Dagestan once more and fly there with my children, but so far we have not succeeded. But I hope that we will still visit these places.

Looks interesting, noticed that there are more and more people try to visit Dagestan in last time, including my own mates too)

They are attracted by the mountains and the peculiar local Caucasian cuisine. Almost like abroad.

Hola, me gustan sus fotos.

🙏🙏🙏

De nada.
