I haven't done a gaming post in a while, so let's do one. As most of you who know me probably know, I'm a poor gamer. I think I enjoy the idea of games more than actually playing games. Or maybe I'm too much of a workaholic sometimes and I never give myself permission to sit down and enjoy. Or maybe these days I prefer to use my free time to go out and talk to people (or, if you know salaryman culture in Japan, getting drunk with people). Hmmm. But I wouldn't say never. Sometimes I actually make time and enjoy a game, usually with my kids, but sometimes alone at night before bed.
Anyway, I just loaded up Steam (not Steem) for the first time in a few weeks and I see it's time for their summer sale, the time of year when they deeply discount older games down to just a few bucks. Lucky timing! Looks like there are a handful of really cheap games. Some that jump out at me and a few thoughts:
Civ VI - on same for just $2.99. I remember playing Civ 2 and 3 back in the Uni days. If there was ever a just one more turn game that you keep one-more-turning until morning, it is Civ. At only 3 bucks, this seems like a pretty great deal.
Disco Elysium - on sale for $3.99. It seems like over the past few years, this is the one game that is constantly recommended to me. I've never made the time for it, but at only 4 bucks, maybe I finally will!
Total War: Shogun 2 - on sale for $2.99. As someone who loves Japanese history and has read far too many books on it, I feel like I should have already played this game. As you might imagine, I've had it recommended dozen of times, but I never have yet. But for this price...!
Grim Fandango Remastered - on sale for $3.74. If you were paying attention, a few weeks ago I posted about Sam & Max, a comedy adventure game that I played through with my son. Grim Fandango was by the same company, made about ten years after Sam & Max. Same crazy humor, this time with the setting being the Mexican Day of the Dead. I might have to pick up this remake to play with my son.
Half-Life 1 & 2 - both on sale for only 99 cents. Back in the day nearly everyone had played these. They were about the biggest hits around. If you are younger and missed them the first time around or are older but never got around to playing them, now is a great chance!
Anyway, maybe I'll stop there. Like I said, I'm not really much of a gamer, so I'm probably overlooking all kinds of cool games here. Go check out the sale and see for yourself!
And if you see one that you'd like to recommend, leave a comment with details.
