The act of listening involves being able to assimilate what someone has heard and understanding it. When we understand what we have heard and are able to apply it to our lives, that means we have listened to the things that we are hearing.
Listening to the Word of God implies that we have understood that Word of God and we are living our lives in the direction of what we have heard. To listen, we have to be in tune with what we are hearing. Someone who listens must be the person who pays proper attention to what he is hearing. We should learn to pay attention to the word of God so that we can listen to it.
Hearing alone will not make us true disciples. True disciples are those who obey the doctrines of God. We cannot obey what we do not understand well. This is the reason why we must learn to listen to the Word of God properly with utmost attention.
