Hello, my fellow readers and writers.
A Little Love and Sunflowers is the book I'm bringing you today. This title was the one that won the Little Prince Award for short stories in 2008. Its author is José Antonio Linares. He is a children's writer from the province of Pinar del Río in the western part of the country.
Linares has won several awards for children's literature and has also published four books with Loynaz Editions.
But today I want to talk to you about the prize. It's a booklet composed of eight tender stories. The cover illustration was by the excellent cartoonist Cecilio Avilés, who created the iconic characters Cecilín and Coti, which Cuban television adapted into cartoons.
The rest of the illustrations, that is, the interior ones, were also done by Cecilio, and they have the advantage that, in addition to animating the stories, they can also be colored, giving children total freedom to imagine and color them with any colors they prefer.
The book was edited by Mamá Sanlope, Mirtha Beatón, who for many years, until a few weeks ago, when she passed away, was one of the best editors in the country, not just in Sanlope. My tribute to her as well.
The book opens with a quote from Cuban writer Excilia Saldaña, a reference for all children's writers.
As I write these words and read the book, my skin crawls, especially because the first story is titled "Let Me Wake You Up with a Kiss." Thus begins Pablo Milanés's song "Beginning and End of a Green Morning." This book moves you step by step.
This first installment deals with love that grows from innocence to adolescence, with all the feelings that come with being a little girl and one day waking up and discovering that she's a teenager and that she loves her boyfriend like a child. A beautiful story.
The second story tells us about sibling love and teaches us that we must love our siblings, no matter their flaws; above all, they are our family, our safe place.
A science boy who wants to be a cosmonaut takes us to read the third story in this book. Although it's a short story about a child's dreams, it's still magical and full of tenderness. The power of synthesis in just a page and a half.
Through the adventures and occurrences of two girls, we delve into their stories and the gossip they learn from each other. I had to laugh at the end when they quote The Little Prince... If the essential is invisible to the eyes, how can I possibly see it?
True greatness lies in showing ourselves as we are, without masks or disguises, but in who we truly are, regardless of size, skin color, or hair type. This theme is the subject of one of the stories, and I think it's very apt.
Love for nature, family, friends, preparing for the future, and many other themes that prepare our children for their immediate and future lives are reflected in this book. I applaud the jury for their unanimous decision in favor of A Little Love and Sunflowers.

Un poco de amor y girasoles es la propuesta que vengo a traerles hoy. Este título fue el que alcanzó el lauro Principito de cuentos en el año 2008. Su autor se nombra José Antonio Linares. es escritor para niños, de la provincia Pinar del Río al occidente del país.
Linares tiene en su haber varios premios en literatura para niños, además tiene cuatro libros publicados por ediciones Loynaz.
Pero hoy quiero hablarles del premio. ES un cuaderno compuesto por ocho cuentos llenos de ternura. La ilustración de cubierta estuvo a cargo del excelentísimo caricaturista Cecilio Avilés, quien creara los icónicos personajes de Cecilín y Coti y que la televisión cubana llevara a dibujos animados.
El resto de las ilustraciones, o sea, las de interiores también las hizo Cecilio y tienen la condición que además de animar las historias, también se pueden colorear y les dan a los niños total libertad de imaginarlos y colorearlos con los colores que prefieran.
La edición del libro la hizo Mamá Sanlope, Mirtha Beatón, quien fuera muchos años hasta hace unas semanas atrás que fue a su descanso eterno, una de las mejores editoras del país, no solo de Sanlope. A ella también mi homenaje.
El libro abre con una frase de la escritora cubana, referencia para todos los escritores para niños Excilia Saldaña.
En lo que escribo estas palabras y voy leyendo el libro se me pone la piel de gallinas, sobre todo porque el primer cuento se titula Déjame despertarte con un beso. Así comienza la canción de Pablo Milanés Comienzo y final de una verde mañana. Este libro emociona paso a paso.
En esta primera entrega trata del amor que pasa de la inocencia a la adolescencia, con todos los sentimientos que pueda acompañar el ser una niña y un día despertar y descubrir que ya es adolescente y que ama a su novio de juegos de niños. una historia preciosa.
En la segunda historia nos cuenta del amor de hermanos y nos enseña que a nuestros hermanos hay que quererlos, aunque tengan los defectos que tengan, por encima de todos son nuestra familia, el lugar seguro.
Un niño de ciencias que quiere ser cosmonauta nos lleva a leer el tercer cuento de este libro. Aunque es un cuento corto con los sueños de un niño, no deja de ser mágico y lleno de ternura. El poder de la síntesis en solo cuartilla y media.
En las peripecias y ocurrencias de dos niñas nos adentramos en sus historias y chismes que se entera una de la otra. Tuve que reír al final cuando citan al Principito… Si lo esencial es invisible a los ojos, cómo quieres que lo vea.
La verdadera grandeza está en mostrarse tal y como somos, sin máscaras ni antifaces, si no en cómo somos verdaderamente, sin importar tamaño color de la piel, o tipo de cabellos. Este tema es el de uno de los relatos, me parece muy acertado.
El amor por la naturaleza, la familia, los amigos, prepararnos para el futuro y otros, muchos temas que preparan a nuestros niños para su vida inmediata y futura, son las que vemos reflejadas en este libro, que aplaudo al jurado por haber sido unánime su fallo a favor de Un poco de amor y girasoles.
