Recientemente tuve la maravillosa oportunidad de leer una más de las grandiosas obras de Jane Austen, Emma, y era una de las que más quería leer porque me causaba curiosidad, y la verdad es que pienso que fue un gran acierto 🤗 >I recently had the wonderful opportunity to read another of Jane Austen's great works, Emma, and it was one of the ones I most wanted to read because it made me curious, and the truth is that I think it was a great success 🤗
Overview/Resumen
Emma Woodhouse is a young woman from a wealthy social class who constantly tries to match people, especially her friends, analyzes the qualities of each one and organizes events with the purpose of encouraging meetings that end in engagements and subsequent weddings, but in this process Emma ends up knowing herself better.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Some people have come to believe that Austen's characters, although not linear, are very similar, that in fact they are practically the same but with different names, so they do not vary from one novel to another, and perhaps we could say that this is true, if we only read Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, but Emma is completely different, this protagonist fits perfectly into the canons of her time, unlike Elizabeth Bennet or Marianne, but even so, Austen uses her as a resource to satirize the most common standards and concerns of families of that time and their way of thinking about the roles that a woman should fulfill. Emma is kind-hearted and acts with her friends in mind, she cannot stand the idea of them remaining single and that is why she acts as a matchmaker, because she feels that she sees attitudes and qualities that others do not, however she is so wrapped up in this that she ends up forgetting herself.
Algunas personas han llegado a opinar que los personajes de Austen aunque no son lineales son muy parecidos, que de hecho son prácticamente los mismos pero con distintos nombres, así que no varían de una novela a otra, y tal vez podríamos decir que esto es cierto, si solo leemos Orgullo y Prejuicio y Sentido y Sensibilidad, pero Emma es completamente diferente, esta protagonista se amolda perfectamente a los cánones de su época, a diferencia de Elizabeth Bennet o Marianne, pero aún así, Austen la usa como recurso para satirizar los estándares y preocupaciones más comunes de las familias de esa época y su forma de pensar acerca de los roles que debía cumplir una mujer. Emma es de buen corazón y actúa pensando en sus amigas, no soporta la idea de que se queden solteras y por eso funge labores de celestina, porque siente que ella ve actitudes y cualidades que otros no, sin embargo está tan enfrascada en esto que termina olvidándose de sí misma.
What I like most is that Jane Austen lived in that time, so the experiences we read about in her novels are part of the everyday life of her society; they are not speculation. So even though they are fictional stories, they have a basis in reality. In this case, the novel Emma explores the different types of marriages that existed at the time, from those based on love and trust to those based on convenience and economic interests. It also explores how social hierarchies worked and what the fate of women was who had no alternative but to submit to the will of their parents because that was what was expected of them since they had almost no rights.
Lo que más me gusta es que Jane Austen vivía en esa época, así que las vivencias y experiencias que leemos en sus novelas forman parte del día a día cotidiano de su sociedad, no se trata de especulaciones, así que aunque sean historias de ficción tienen una base real. En este caso la novela Emma explora los diferentes tipos de matrimonios que existían en la época, desde los que estaban basados en el amor y la confianza hasta los que se basaban en la conveniencia e intereses económicos, pero a su vez también explora como funcionaban las jerarquías sociales y cuál era el destino de las mujeres que no tenían otra alternativa que someterse a la voluntad de sus padres porque eso era lo que se esperaba de ellas porque casi no tenían derechos.
The characters are very dynamic, as I say they differ from other Austen novels, my favorites being Mr. Elton and Miss Bates, he for being eccentric and she for being so talkative, both are very funny to me 😄 But without a doubt the most beautiful thing about the whole novel is how Emma ended up discovering herself and her own feelings, understanding that marriage is much more than compatibility of characters, that love is something much deeper and more complex.
Los personajes son muy dinámicos, tal como les digo difieren de otras novelas de Austen, siendo mis favoritos el Sr. Elton, y la Srta. Bates, él por ser excéntrico y ella por ser tan locuaz, ambos me resultan muy graciosos 😄 Pero sin dudas que lo más hermoso de todas la novela es como Emma terminó descubriéndose a sí misma y sus propios sentimientos, entendiendo que el matrimonio es mucho más que compatibilidad de caracteres, que el amor es algo mucho más profundo y complejo.
