RE: A Book I Loved as a Teenager: John Wyndam's 'The Chrysalids'

in Hive Book Club20 days ago

I read this book in high school. I liked the idea of reading science fiction for homework. The ending left me sad (and mad) because my teenage Hollywood brain wanted everybody to man up, grab guns, and start shooting to fix things. Never happened 😌 Great review. It brought back memories. 😄

Ha, yes, teenage boys are so undiscerning!

Haha. I had to pretend I was deeply engaged with the themes when my hormones just wanted something to go boom. Yet, it is one of the few high-school fiction books that made an impression on me. For some reason I also remember A Separate Peace, which we had to read for English literature.
