The book I'm bringing to you today is the first book I ever read in my entire life. I was on a scholarship in high school, and a history teacher told us about this work. Apparently, she saw something in me, because out of so many students, I was the one she gave the book to. I was immediately drawn to it, as Egypt is considered the cradle of humanity. I have kept this copy since that time, and although it has passed through many hands and readers, I have been lucky enough to have it return to me.

La propuesta que les traigo hoy es del primer libro que leí en toda mi vida. Estaba yo becada en la secundaria y una profesora de historia nos habló de esta obra, al parecer, algo vio en mi, que entre tantos alumnos, fue a mí a quién le regaló el libro. Yo me sentí atraída de inmediato ya que Egipto es considerada la cuna de la humanidad. Este ejemplar lo conservo desde aquella época y aunque ha pasado por varias manos y lectores, he tenido la suerte de que regrese a mí.
About the author, I can tell you that he was an Italian writer, famous for his adventure novels set in places like Malaysia, the Caribbean, and the Indian jungle. He created characters that have fueled the imagination of millions of readers around the world, the most famous being Sandokan and the Black Corsair. His novels were tremendously popular in Spanish-speaking countries; here in Cuba, he was a major success. Unfortunately, like many writers despite his success, Emilio Salgari had a tragic personal life, full of financial difficulties, which led him to suicide, again, like many writers.
Del autor puedo decirles que fue un escritor italiano, famoso por sus novelas de aventuras ambientadas en lugares como Malasia, el Caribe y la selva india, creando personajes que han alimentado la imaginación de millones de lectores por todo el mundo, siendo los más célebres Sandokán y el Corsario Negro. Sus novelas fueron tremendamente populares en los países de habla hispana, acá en Cuba, fue todo un suceso. Por desgracia, como muchos escritores a pesar de su éxito, Emilio Salgari tuvo una vida personal trágica y llena de dificultades económicas, lo que lo llevó al suicidio, también como a muchos escritores.

Ya entrando en materia, esta historia nos cuenta las peripecias de Mirinri, un joven que creció alejado de lujos y del esplendor de los palacios, llevando una vida modesta y sencilla, criado por un sabio sacerdote . Al cumplir los 18 años, Mirinri descubre un hallazgo a orillas del Nilo que cambiaría su destino, una joya con forma de víbora, símbolo del poder de los faraones, esto desencadena la revelación de su verdadero origen. Mirinri es el hijo del faraón Teti y, por tanto, el legítimo heredero al trono de Egipto, que fue usurpado por otro faraón.
After that, and determined to avenge his father's death and claim his place, Mirinri begins a journey to Memphis accompanied by the wise old man who raised him. Después de eso, y decidido a vengar la muerte de su padre y reclamar su lugar, Mirinri inicia un viaje hacia Menfis acompañado del sabio anciano que lo crío. A mitad de camino, se enamora de una enigmática y bella joven de sangre real. Para poder conquistarla, como ocurría en esos tiempos, deberá primero demostrar que es el legítimo faraón. A partir de ahí comienzan sus verdaderas peripecias. Para lograr su objetivo le tocará vencer muchos obstáculos, peligros y misterios. This novel is written in such a way that the suspense is maintained from the first to the last page. As I delved deeper into the reading, I began to become fascinated and passionate about the charms of the Egyptian world. Its colors, its customs, its rituals, its beliefs. Sometimes I was transported to Ancient Egypt, to the point where I believed I was one of those princesses laden with jewels and adornments, and sometimes I even believed I was Cleopatra herself.
Esta novela está escrita de tal forma que durante la narración se mantiene el suspenso desde la primera hasta la última página. A medida que me fui adentrando en la lectura, empecé a fascinarme y apasionarme por los encantos el mundo egipcio. Sus colores, sus costumbres, sus rituales, sus creencias. A veces me transportaba al Antiguo Egipto, a tal punto que me creía yo misma una de esas princesas cargadas de joyas y aditamentos y a veces hasta me creía la mismísima Cleopatra.
Este es un libro para los amantes de las aventuras. Salgari tiene una espectacular manera, casi fotográfica, de describir la viveza de los paisajes, las costumbres y el esplendor de esa lejana civilización. Aunque el protagonista resulta ser el "clásico" héroe de origen humilde que no sabe quién realmente es, la lectura no aburre y es muy amena ya que mezcla aventura, suspenso y algo que no puede faltar, romance.
With its fluid and accessible prose, "The Daughters of the Pharaohs" is a fascinating example of Emilio Salgari's talent for creating stories in exotic settings. He manages to write a tale that captivates and offers a very particular and adventurous vision of the Egypt of the pharaohs. It is a book that, after a century of being published, is still worth reading because it maintains its power to entertain and make readers like me dream of distant eras full of tragedy, honor, betrayal, and above all, love.
Con su prosa fluida y accesible "Las hijas de los faraones" es una muestra fascinante del talento de Emilio Salgari para crear historias en escenarios exóticos, consigue escribir un relato que atrapa y ofrece una visión muy particular y aventurera del Egipto de los faraones. Es un libro que, después de un siglo de haber sido publicado, vale la pena leer porque mantiene su poder de entretenimiento y hacer soñar, a lectores como yo, con épocas lejanas llenas de tragedia, honor, traición y sobre todo, amor.
