The photograph I’m sharing was taken on the streets of Havana some time ago. That used to be the path to my home, and returning during sunrises and sunsets made the journeys back and forth feel surrounded by old buildings covered in shadows. I miss that path, and I haven’t taken it in a long time—or maybe I just don’t know if I could do it without falling into memories of the place and the people. I miss the streets, but I miss the moments even more. Today, the city is more in shadows than ever—but real shadows: buildings collapse one after another, and the shadows are becoming perpetual.
La fotografía que les muestro fue tomada en las calles de La Habana hace un tiempo. Ese era el camino hacia mi casa, y regresar en amaneceres y atardeceres hacía que los viajes de ida y vuelta estuvieran rodeados de viejas edificaciones cubiertas de sombras. Extraño ese camino y hace mucho que no lo recorro, o no sé si podría hacerlo sin caer en recuerdos del lugar y de las personas. Extraño las calles, pero más extraño los momentos. Hoy, la ciudad está más a las sombras que nunca, pero verdaderas sombras: las edificaciones se caen una tras otra y las sombras se vuelven perpetuas.
