It looks like the much awaited harmattan is here again because it's presence could be felt everywhere today. The smell of woodsmoke and dry leaves filled the air, and the chilly breeze was a welcome respite from the heat. Good riddance to the bad heat, lol.
Speaking of the harmattan, my day took an interesting turn. Before today, walking under the sun would have taken a toll on you, leaving you tired, sweating, and almost dehydrated - a simple hack of taking my water bottle along saves the day. But today was different. I never felt its impact on my short stroll along one of the popular roads in my city, Eziukwu road to be precise.
I didn't really plan the stroll but after waiting for almost ten minutes to get a Keke tricycle back to the office and none was forthcoming because most of them were all boarded, and the empty ones weren't going my way, I decided to stroll down to the junction where it would be easier to board one. Meanwhile, I was excited about the walk, and I was sure to capture some shadows since it was already noon. 😅
As I continued my stroll, I stumbled upon a home interior shop. I saw these beautiful sets sitting pretty under the sun and thought to myself, "What a beautiful sight!" I approached the salesperson, inquired about the prices, and sought permission to take snapshots.
The prices weren't bad – ₦500,000 for the set of chair and table, ₦300,000 each for the swings, and ₦55,000 for the single chair. I even asked for discount just so he would see me as a potential customer, but my interest was actually on the shadows, hehehe.
A little further, I stumbled upon a motorcycle enjoying the rays of the golden sun. Another click click.
Before I could finish clicking away, another shadow appeared before me, and I immediately included it in my collection.
Eventually, I arrived at the the junction, Okigwe Road roundabout, a familiar landmark with its railroad. Having not been in this area for a while, it was a pleasant surprise to revisit it.
My stroll came to an end here, as I was able to catch a tricycle ride back to the office. Although it was a swift and brief walk, it was undoubtedly worthwhile. It provided an opportunity for me to reconnect with my surroundings, appreciating the "new face of the environment" where my former office was situated. Moreover, it allowed me to commend the government's efforts in road reconstruction and infrastructural development, which have significantly enhanced the area.
Every walk I embark on offers a whole new experience. - Luchyl
