on a typical nice summer day lots of folks pass by our place on a stroll making sure to include a stop at one of the several ice cream stands along the harbor.
among them all was a herring gull, who like all gulls was constantly on the lookout for something to eat.
after casing the ice cream joint he made an abrupt turn and headed straight to the counter
he jumped up onto the deck and mulled over in his head what flavor to get. there were so many good ones to choose from.
but suddenly he realized he didn't have any money so he would have to try some other way. perhaps the trash bin would be an affordable option.
but no luck. nobody was throwing away their ice creams today. it was starting to look bleak. he stood facing the dark possibility that while all the people were enjoying theirs, there may not be any for him today
