Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design community I wish you a successful new year 2025. I have a few things to be thankful for from the past year and I'm sure you do too my dear friends. One of the things I am thankful for is the opportunity to travel for my work as @amjdancer and because of that I got to know the José María Cordova International Airport in Río Negro, which is about an hour away from Medellín, in the municipality Río Negro here in the Department of Antioquia, Colombia.
José María Cordova Airport is popularly known as Río Negro Airport and also as Medellín International Airport, but its official name is José María Cordova International Airport, which is the name of a Colombian independence hero born here in Antioquia, having the honor of naming this airport, which is very important because it ranks second among the most important airports in the country.
Saludos amigos de Hive y de la comunidad Architecture+Design les deseo un exitoso año nuevo 2025. Tengo algunas cosas que agradecer del año pasado y estoy seguro que ustedes también mis queridos amigos. Una de las cosas que agradezco es la oportunidad de viajar por mi trabajo como @amjdancer y por eso conocí el Aeropuerto Internacional José María Cordova en Río Negro, que está a una hora de Medellín, en el municipio Río Negro aquí en el Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia.
Al Aeropuerto José María Cordova lo conocen popularmente como Aeropuerto de Río Negro y también como Aeropuerto internacional de Medellín pero su nombre oficial es Aeropuerto Internacional José María Cordoba, ese es el nombre de un procer de la independencia colombiana nacido aquí en Antioquia teniendo el honor de dar nombre a este aeropuerto que es muy importante porque ocupa el segundo lugar entre los aeropuertos más importantes del país.
This airport is a beauty, it is a work of modern architecture that gives more privileges to the Department of Antioquia because it has a beautiful crescent-shaped design that I tried to capture with the camera of my iPhone, well now I have an iPhone again, that's a relief :) As reflected in the photos the José María Cordova International Airport offers a visual spectacle on all sides because whether the view is from the outside or inside what I see is a work of art, a beauty.
This air terminal highlights its design by the transparent smoked acrylic material used to shape the large curvilinear dome and as you can see the transparent acrylic is also an advantage because it allows a lot of natural lighting inside. That is something that I like in the constructions, I have said it before because for me the spaces with a lot of light are my favorite and it is better if the light is natural it is the most appropriate for ecological reasons.
Este aeropuerto es una belleza, es una obra de la arquitectura moderna que da más privilegios al Departamento de Antioquía porque tiene un diseño hermoso en forma de media luna que traté de capturar con la cámara de mi iPhone, bueno ya tengo otra vez un iPhone, eso es un alivio :) Como se refleja en las fotos el Aeropuerto Internacional José María Cordova ofrece un espectaculo visual por todos sus lados porque si la vista es desde el exterior o el interior lo que veo es una obra de arte, una belleza.
Este terminal áereo resalta su diseño por el material acrílico transparente ahumado utilizado para dar la forma al gran domo curvilíneo y como verán el acrílico transparante también es una ventaja porque permite mucha iluminación natural en el interior. Eso es algo que me gusta en las construccciones, ya lo he dicho antes porque para mí los espacios con mucha luz son mis favoritos y es mejor si la luz es natural es lo más apropiado por razones ecologicas.
This type of transparent roof is perfect for its durability, lighting and beauty, the truth is that the Jose Maria Cordova Airport is nice in its exterior spaces and before going inside I will show more outside the dome, other buildings, parking lots, access roads for cars and people, so let's go and take a walk outside before entering.
Este tipo de techo transparentes es perfecto por su durabilidad, iluminación y belleza, la verdad que el Aeropuerto José María Cordova es agradable en sus espacios exteriores y antes de pasar al interior lo mostraré más por fuera el domo, otros edificios, los parqueaderos, las vias de acceso para los autos y las personas, entonces vamos y demós un paseo por fuera antes de entrar.
The curved line of the main airport building is interrupted at two end sections and this cut does no harm to the visual spectacle of the giant crescent of concrete, steel and acrylic.
La línea curva del edificio principal del aeropuerto se interrumpe en dos tramos que están en los extremos y este corte no hace ningún daño al espectaculo visual de la media luna gigante de concreto, acero y acrílico.
The main building of the Aqropuerto José María Cordova is fascinating if we see it from the outside and now you will see that it is also fascinating from the inside, well come with me to the second most important airport in Colombia :) The roof, look friends, on the roof is the visual spectacle. When you enter the José María Cordova airport you will find a visual spectacle thanks to the roof and the curved shape of this airport.
El edificio principal del Aqropuerto José María Cordova es fascinante si lo vemos por fuera y ahora verán que también lo es por dentro, bueno pasén conmigo al segundo aeropuerto más importante de Colombia :) El techo, miren amigos que en el techo está el espectáculo visual. Al entrar al aeropuerto José María Cordova uno se encuentra con un espectaculo visual gracias al techo y a la forma curva de este aeropuerto.
While waiting for my flight, I take the opportunity to walk around the airport.
Mientras espero mi vuelo aprovecho para una vuelta dentro del aeropuerto.
The structure of the main building, I never tire of saying it, is a work of art and I am sure you agree with me that this is a mega construction well executed by those responsible for it. Going up to the second floor we can look outside through the transparent walls which at the same time is the roof of this building. I felt very well in this airport where you can notice the respect for nature in its planning :)
La estructutra del edificio principal, no me canso de decirlo, es una obra de arte y estoy seguro que ustedes están de acuerdo conmigo de que esta es una mega construcción bien ejecutada por los responsables de ella. Al subir a la segunda planta podemos mirar al exterior a través de las paredes transparentes que al mismo tiempo es el techo de este edificio. Me sentí muy bien en este aeropuerto donde se nota el respeto por la naturaleza en su planificación :)
It is inevitable to want to see the runways and the airplanes. Right? Then I'll get to it :)
En infaltable querer ver las pistas y los aviones. Verdad? Entonces voy a eso :)
