Hello my friends from this beloved Architecture+Design community, I take advantage of the fact that we are enjoying a very pleasant climate since winter is just beginning, which is really very mild and delicious, to walk and enjoy our environment to the fullest.
My favorite area to walk in the mornings is the Malecón, this area is beautiful for its view of the sea, which these days has a very beautiful intense blue as well as the sky, contemplating this landscape renews my energies to face the challenges of life.

Today I want to share with you some important works that are located at the mouth of the Almendares River in the area where the Havana Malecón ends. This area is very interesting due to the existence of 2 tunnels and an iron bridge just a few meters apart from each other that cross the Almendares River allowing road communication between the neighborhoods of Vedado and Miramar.

The Almendares River is one of the most important rivers in the city, it runs 45 km until it flows into Havana Bay, precisely in this area where we are, where the Torreón La Chorrera is located, a fortification dating from the seventeenth century that was used for the defense of the city and the 1830 restaurant, a large house of imposing beauty.

On this occasion I will show you how we can cross the Almendares River on foot and you will learn the curiosities of these works. Well, yes, join me!
We began to walk through the Fifth Avenue Tunnel, because it has a pedestrian crossing, the tunnel is short, it is only 220 meters long and was built in 1959 replacing the old Pote bridge, with this construction the passage of boats between the river and the sea was allowed.

When we leave the tunnel we are already on Fifth Avenue of Miramar, we can appreciate its wide avenue with parks that exhibit well-kept vegetation and majestic buildings.

Just a few meters away and parallel to this exit we find the exit of the Line Tunnel where 31st Avenue of the Playa municipality begins. This tunnel was built in 1953 and is 210 meters long, has no pedestrian crossing, is very busy with both cars and city buses. This is a fast road that connects the municipalities of Playa and Marianao with Vedado.

Just 100 meters away we see the iron bridge, I really like to do this tour because the view that you see from this bridge is very beautiful. Although it is called an iron bridge, it is actually made with naval steel. This bridge was designed to rotate and let yachts pass, but I haven't seen it work for a long time. It has pedestrian lanes on both sides of the bridge and cars can also pass. Here I stopped for a few minutes to contemplate the landscape and take these souvenir photos.

On the way back we pass through the entrance of the Línea tunnel that is in the Vedado area and so I show you the two ends of the tunnel.

I hope you liked this tour and found it interesting, I enjoyed it a lot.

See you soon!
