First of all, what is depression??

As for me , depression is when you are just in the dark phase of life, where nothing makes you happy and you just feel like life is against you, a condition where you will be alive but feel dead.

Depression has unfortunately led to many deaths, often due to overwhelming challenges in areas such as marriage, education, or business. It's important to recognize that anyone can experience depression, regardless of their circumstances. What truly matters is how we respond to and manage these feelings.

By seeking support and developing effective coping strategies, we can prevent depression from becoming so overwhelming that it leads to the thoughts of suicide.

It is actually very advisable to notice the people around you , because some people tend to keep things to their self and carry all the burdens in their heart and never express how they feel. There are some factors you will notice in people whenever they are depressed such as them always been moody and sad even in funny situations, they don't find joy and fun in the activities they once loved doing, isolation is also another big factor of depression.

Without further ado, I will be providing some strategies to cope with depression.

. Don't compare yourself to others : Comparing yourself with people that are maybe doing well than you in life kills, it will always just make you think less of yourself and make you feel you aren't worthy and nothing good can come out of you. This was something that always affected me in my studies , I was always fond of comparing myself to those that were smarter than me , I never focused on making myself better and that made me never reach my full potential. The habit of comparing our achievements with other people , as the tendency to put us in a situation where we will feel like life isn't fair to us and that marks the beginning of depression.

. Make friends and interact with people. There is a girl in my university that has formed the habit of always walking alone and doing everything alone, everytime you see her she is always by herself ,she doesn't even have friends, and that has affected her studies and her health. I always feel pity for her when I see her because she always looks sad, tattered ,depressed and mad, she is not just mentally and physically sound. No man is an island , learn to always make friends and interact with people because loneliness also causes depression.

. Set achievable goals . This is another major problem people face. When you set too many goals for yourself and you end up not achieving them, you may feel sad and dissapointed in yourself which could lead you to depression. Set achievable goals and carry out activities one after the other and not in haste.

. Surround yourself with positive minded individuals : This has been a factor that has kept me going in life. Nothing beats having people that are ready to support you and guide you, even during the days when you are wrong . When you have people you can easily share your secrets with and they won't judge you or mock you, then you will always feel free and not keep things to yourself. I have learned to always be with people that knows how to have fun and make me happy and not those that are going to oppress me or put me in a situation where I will be deep in thoughts and feel less of myself.

Lasty , always make an effort to speak out about your feelings. If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of depression, it is important and advisable to seek support and counselling from mental health professionals.

.Thanks for reading.
