It's been a long time thought, considering if I could change one thing in the world today, what would it be? Among many of the things that could need fixing today in our world, I think I'm certain about one route I'll be taking, for a start at least because it seems the world today needs a lot of fixing, unarguably.
Change is constant! It's a good thing to know there's a reality as such, and it gives the validity and thought of this change that has somehow been my desire to see. The potency of change to occur or happen to a situation or matter is proven viable, and the above statement is an agreement to that whole lot.
I've seen and considered many things in this life, and honestly, there's a lot that could need fixing. From we humans to products, to things minor and major, to situations around the world, a lot could need fixing indeed. One certain matter that draws my heart and has made me consider if only I had some superpowers to alter the current state of things for the better, is the matter of leadership－or governance in detail.
I'd prefer to relate more to it on the platform of leadership as a whole. Leadership is beyond governance, the latter is only an aspect that leadership is perpetuated, nevertheless, it seems to be the most seen and weighty one. But I believe leadership encapsulates more, like the little roles we play at home, in societies, in schools, to bigger ones in organisations, corporate bodies, religious bodies and the rest.
There's always a clamour, especially in my part of the world about bad governance. What I consider is that all that could perhaps be fixed and avoided through proper leadership orientation, standards and the reflection of proper qualities of leadership. This is why I wouldn't totally put it on the government, we all have little roles to play from the little leadership positions we occupy before attaining those ‘big’ ones. The character should be there before the position.
Notwithstanding, the most potent form of leadership in a democratic nation like mine, and most nations of the world is that held by the government of the nation. They constitute the major power holders, and if there's a place I'd like to see this change in leadership more is certainly that platform of governance.
Leadership has the potential to make a lot of things right. If the leader stands right and does right, with all integrity, honour, truth, loyalty and empathy, then necessary changes would be seen and felt, yielding to the advancement of that institution or nation, and the people therein. If things could be seen going haywire, the most explanation is the leadership losing its balance and not being competent enough.
Well, I do hope this all wasn't some wishful thought, but that in the end I could alongside the company of other like-minded individuals bring this change in our world, one step at a time. The change we would want to see can be the little combined efforts of one another. If leadership would be seen in the light of what is, then maybe we could find this change that I believe many also so much desire.
