Today I want to share a little adventure that led me to discover a corner of history on this beautiful Margarita Island. It is the old dog track, a space that once had a very different purpose than it does today.
I started my work routine around ten in the morning. I just had to go to the Unik hotel to do the routine water check, so there was no need to get up early.

Hoy quiero compartir una pequeña aventura que me llevó a descubrir un rincón con historia en esta hermosa Isla Margarita. Se trata del antiguo canódromo, un espacio que alguna vez tuvo un propósito muy diferente al que tiene hoy en día.
Comencé mi rutina de trabajo alrededor de las diez de la mañana, solo tenía que ir al hotel Unik para hacer el chequeo rutinario de las aguas, no era necesario madrugar.
Since I knew that today's work wouldn't take me long, my husband and I decided to take advantage of the day to visit the old Magic City, now called Diverland, located on Jóbito Villalba Avenue in Pampatar, across from the Sambil shopping center.
I'll tell you that many years ago, Diverland was known as “Magic City,” an entertainment venue that offered various attractions, including a dog track and even an air-conditioned cockfighting arena. However, times change, and in 1991, Isla Mágica closed its doors to make way for Diverland, an amusement park that is currently undergoing repairs. Within its facilities is also Waterland, home to the dolphinarium and water attractions.
Our curiosity led us to explore the place with the intention of seeing what remains of the old dog track. However, as we approached, we found padlocks on the doors, which prevented us from entering. It was impossible to obtain more information about its history, as we could not find anyone who could share details about its past.
Cómo sabía que no me tomaría mucho tiempo hacer el trabajo de hoy, mi esposo y yo decidimos aprovechar el día para visitar la antigua Ciudad mágica que hoy tiene por nombre Diverland , ubicado en la avenida Jóbito Villalba, en Pampatar, frente al centro comercial Sambil.
Les contaré que Diverland, hace muchos años, era conocida como “Ciudad mágica”, un espacio de entretenimiento que ofrecía diversas atracciones, incluyendo un canódromo y hasta una gallera con aire acondicionado. Sin embargo, los tiempos cambian, y en 1991 Isla Mágica cerró sus puertas para dar paso a Diverland, un parque de diversiones que en la actualidad se encuentra en proceso de reparación. Dentro de sus instalaciones también se encuentra Waterland, hogar del delfinario y diversiones acuáticas.
Nuestra curiosidad nos llevó a recorrer el lugar con la intención de ver lo que queda del antiguo canódromo. Sin embargo, al acercarnos, encontramos candados en las puertas, lo que nos impidió acceder al interior. Fue imposible obtener más información sobre su historia, ya que no encontramos a nadie que pudiera compartir detalles sobre su pasado.
What we did notice was how much the place has changed over the years. Currently, the area is being converted into a sports complex, a space that aims to promote physical activity and sports. We saw a go-kart track, a boxing training area, and a running track with bleachers where young athletes practice and train.
Lo que sí pudimos apreciar fue la transformación que ha experimentado el lugar con el paso de los años. Actualmente, el área está siendo acondicionada como un complejo deportivo, un espacio que busca fomentar la actividad física y el deporte. Observamos una pista de karting, un área de entrenamiento de boxeo y una pista de atletismo con gradas donde jóvenes atletas practican y se preparan.
We were also pleasantly surprised to see a paddle tennis court, a sport that has gained great popularity in recent times. It is interesting to note how this space, previously dedicated to other types of activities, has evolved to adapt to new sporting trends.
Además, nos sorprendió gratamente ver una cancha de pádel, un deporte que ha ganado gran popularidad en los últimos tiempos. Es interesante notar cómo este espacio, antes dedicado a otro tipo de actividades, ha evolucionado para adaptarse a las nuevas tendencias deportivas.
The surroundings have been beautified by the presence of several condominiums that bring harmony and make the area more pleasant. Without a doubt, the project to convert it into a sports complex can breathe new life into this place, turning it into a meeting point for the community and a space for developing sporting talent in the region.
El entorno se ha embellecido con la presencia de varios condominios que aportan armonía y hacen que la zona sea más agradable. Sin duda, el proyecto de convertirlo en un complejo deportivo puede traer consigo una nueva vida a este lugar, convirtiéndolo en un punto de encuentro para la comunidad y en un espacio de desarrollo para el talento deportivo de la región.
Although we were unable to delve into the history of the dog track as much as we would have liked, this visit left us with a desire to continue exploring and learning more about the places that have shaped the island's evolution.
So, dear friends, this journey does not end here. I will continue researching, looking for more details about the history of this place, because every space has a story that deserves to be told.

Aunque no logramos indagar en la historia del canódromo tanto como hubiéramos querido, esta visita nos dejó con el deseo de seguir explorando y aprendiendo más sobre los rincones que han marcado la evolución de la isla.
