Hello my dear friends, today I want to share with you a tour that I made along a stretch of Avenue G and I will tell you about a monument that has a very interesting history.
This is a large avenue of about 8 kilometers that combines a central promenade with trees and benches located throughout the promenade. The official name is Avenida de los Presidentes (Avenue of the Presidents) because it is a long park where sculptures have been placed in tribute to several presidents of Latin America, which is why it has great cultural and architectural value.
At the beginning of this avenue along the Havana boardwalk there is a monument that has a curious history. It is the first monument dedicated to Tomás Estrada Palma who was twice president, first in 1877 and then in 1902.
It was made in 1921 by the Italian artist Giovanni Nicolini and its design featured a bronze statue of Estrada Palma, full body in an upright position. On the rectangular base of four steps there is a bronze female figure in a seated position and taking notes.
The curious thing is that the statue of the president is no longer found, it was torn down in 1959 by supporters of the new government. They also deleted the description of the monument. Today, this work continues to have historical importance, although its main figure is not present. There are those who think that by tearing down statues they can erase history, it is not like that, history remains through books and people who transmit their experiences to new generations.
In front of this monument there is a large work made of white marble that includes the floor, the continuous and semicircular benches and a circular fountain in its central position, all this accompanied the sculpture of Tomás Estrada Palma.
This area is very beautiful and picturesque, very close we appreciate the Hotel Presidente with Spanish style and a distinctive red color that distinguishes it from the greenery that surrounds it and can be seen from afar. The old pink carriage contributes to the beauty of the surroundings. I really like its elegant design that has maintained its appearance since its inauguration in 1928.
Writing this post has tempted me to get to know it from the inside, I imagine it must be very beautiful, I enjoy the old constructions and furniture because they are of unparalleled beauty. I already wrote this visit on my bucket list.
Another of the buildings that stand out in this area is the América Arias Hospital, specialized in gynecology, obstetrics and neonatology. America Arias was an illustrious nurse and messenger of the combatants of the War of Independence, her bust was placed at the main entrance of the hospital.
The hospital was opened in 1930 and its architecture is very robust and beautiful. Also in its garden is a bust of Pasteur, a great scientist who revolutionized science with his important discoveries in the area of microbiology.

HISTORIA DE UNA ESTATUA AUSENTE
Hola mis queridos amigos, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes recorrido que hice por un tramo de la avenida G y les contaré sobre un monumento que tiene una historia muy interesante.
Esta es una gran avenida de alrededor de 8 kilómetros que conjuga un paseo central con árboles y bancos situados en todo el paseo. El nombre oficial es Avenida de los Presidentes porque constituye un largo parque donde se han situado esculturas en homenaje a varios presidentes de América Latina, por lo cual tiene gran valor cultural y arquitectónico.
En el inicio de esta avenida por el malecón habanero se encuentra un monumento que tiene una curiosa historia. Se trata del primer monumento dedicado a Tomás Estrada Palma quien fue dos veces presidente, primero en 1877 y luego en 1902.
Fue realizado en 1921 por el artista italiano Giovanni Nicolini y en su diseño contaba con una estatua de bronce de Estrada Palma, de cuerpo completo en posición erguida. Sobre la base rectangular de cuatro escalones tiene una figura femenina de bronce en posición sentada y tomando notas.
Lo curioso es que ya no se encuentra la estatua del presidente, ésta fue derribada en 1959 por simpatizantes del nuevo gobierno. También le borraron la descripción del monumento. En la actualidad, esta obra sigue teniendo importancia histórica, aunque su principal figura no esté presente.
Hay quienes piensan que derribando estatuas pueden borrar la historia, no es así, la historia queda a través de los libros y de las personas que transmiten sus experiencias a las nuevas generaciones.
Al frente de este monumento hay una gran obra realizada en mármol blanco que comprende el piso, los bancos continuos y semicirculares y una fuente circular en su posición central, todo esto acompañaba a la escultura de Tomás Estrada Palma.
Esta zona es muy bella y pintoresca, muy cerca apreciamos el Hotel Presidente con estilo español y un distintivo color rojo que lo distingue del verdor que lo rodea y se puede divisar desde lejos. El antiguo carro de color rosado contribuye a la belleza del entorno. Me gusta mucho su diseño elegante que mantiene su aspecto desde su inauguración en 1928.
Escribir este post me ha tentado a conocerlo por dentro, me imagino que debe ser muy bonito, yo disfruto de las construcciones y muebles antiguos porque son de una belleza sinigual. Ya apunté esta visita en mi lista de deseos.
Otra de las construcciones que se destacan en esta zona es el Hospital América Arias, especializado en ginecología, obstetricia y neonatología. América Arias fue una ilustre enfermera y mensajera de los combatientes de la Guerra de Independencia, su busto se colocó en la entrada principal del hospital.
El hospital fue inaugurado en 1930 y su arquitectura es muy robusta y hermosa. También en su jardín se encuentra un busto de Pasteur, gran científico que revolucionó la ciencia con sus descubrimientos importantes en el área de la microbiología.
