Hello dear friends, today I'm pleased to share with you a beautiful place, a little piece of my city, Valencia, Venezuela. It's a special place for many reasons. I already knew it because I've lived and been part of this city for 32 years, but I was delighted to have found this completely renovated and beautiful space, with a new bohemian feel after its restoration. This is the Andrés Pérez Mujica open-air museum, and yes, just as its name indicates, it is a museum. It exhibits many sculptures made by talented artists from this state, mostly from the 1980s.
Hola queridos amigos, hoy me complace poder compartir con ustedes un hermoso lugar, un pedacito de mi ciudad, Valencia en Venezuela, es un lugar especial por muchos motivos. Yo ya lo conocía porque vivo y formo parte de esta ciudad desde hace ya 32 años, sin embargo me gustó haber encontrado este especio totalmente renovado y hermoso, con un nuevo aire bohemio luego de su restauración. Se trata del museo al aire libre Andrés Pérez Mujica, y sí, tal como su nombre lo indica es un museo, en el se exhiben muchas esculturas hechas por talentosos artistas de este estado, en su mayoría esculturas de los años 80.
The place is completely clean. In fact, I saw a cleaning crew doing their job, making sure everything was in its place and looked spotless. It's not just a museum, it's a public square, so there are lots of sidewalks and leafy trees where small animals live, filling the whole space with life and color. These animals include birds (mostly parrots), lots of parakeets, and several squirrels that sometimes shyly dare to come down to receive a reward from the humans. It's very relaxing to go there and rest, like I did, after running some errands I had pending in the morning. There's an air of tranquility and, above all, art. Ahh, and I'll tell you an anecdote 😃 It turns out that the place is actually so inspiring that there were two photography students taking some photos as homework and they asked me to serve as their model, so there I was, posing according to the instructions 😄, it's a shame that I didn't think to ask them to send me those photos.
El lugar está completamente limpio, de hecho vi a una comisión de limpieza haciendo su trabajo, asegurándose de que todo estuviese en su lugar y que luciera impecable, pero además no se trata solo de un museo sino de una plaza pública, así que hay muchas banquetas y frondosos árboles en los que viven pequeños animales que llenan de vida y color todo el espacio, animales como aves (en su mayoría loros) muchos periquitos y varias ardillas que algunas veces se atreven a bajar con timidez para recibir alguna recompensa por parte de los humanos, así que es muy relajante ir allí a descansar, como hice yo, luego de hacer algunas diligencias que tenía pendientes en la mañana. Allí se respira un aire de tranquilidad y sobre todo arte. Ahh y les contaré una anécdota 😃 Resulta que el lugar de hecho es tan inspirador que allí estaban dos estudiantes de fotografía haciendo algunas fotos como tarea y me pidieron el favor que les sirviera de modelo, así que allí estaba yo, posando según las indicaciones 😄, es una pena que yo no haya pensado en pedirles que me pasaran esas fotos.
Next, I'll show you my favorite sculpture. I didn't get the best angle for the photo, and honestly, it wasn't the best time of day for photography (it was midday), so there was a lot of light behind some of the sculptures, but you can roughly tell it's an eagle perched on a bird perch, with a cage with a couple of stones underneath. Art is subjective, so anyone could have a different appreciation of what they see, and in this sense, I have a feeling those two stones represent the eagle's eggs. The cage could represent confinement and protection at the same time. I don't know; it's just an idea, don't take my word for it 😆. The work is called Águila Prascelaria by Alexis Mujica and was created in 1998.
A continuación les mostraré mi escultura favorita. No tomé el mejor ángulo de la foto y honestamente no era la mejor etapa del día para las fotografías (era mediodía) así que había mucha luz por detrás de lagunas esculturas, pero más o menos se nota que se trata de un águila posado sobre una percha de aves y debajo de él hay una jaula con un par de piedras. El arte es subjetivo, así que cualquier persona podría tener una apreciación diferente de lo que ve, y en este sentido yo presiento que esas dos piedras representan los huevos del águila, la jaula podría representar encierro y protección al mismo tiempo, no lo sé, es una idea nada más, no me hagan mucho caso 😆. La obra se llama el Águila Prascelaria de Alexis Mujica y fue creada en 1998
This work is called The Boomerang and is one of the most recent. In fact, I believe it's the only recent one, as it was installed in the museum in 2016. It's a sculpture of a female contortionist. The excessive light didn't favor the image, but there was no way to take the photograph at a favorable angle. However, I tried to make some adjustments in Photoshop.
Esta obra se llama El Boomerang y es una de las más recientes, de hecho creo que es la única reciente ya que fue instalada en el museo en el año 2016. Se trata de la escultura de una mujer contorsionista. El exceso de luz no favoreció la imagen pero no había manera de tomar la fotografía en un ángulo que la favoreciera, sin embargo intenté hacer algunos retoques en photoshop
One of the sculptures that I really didn't like, if I'm being completely honest with you, was this one, called The Sila Family. I didn't like it because it made me feel a bit uneasy, maybe because the facial expressions are a bit too realistic. 😄 It was installed in the museum in 1983 and was created by the artist Jorge Segui.
Una de las esculturas que realmente no me gustó, si soy totalmente franca con ustedes fue esta, se llama La familia Sila, no me gustó porque me generó cierta inquietud, tal vez porque es un poco realista en las expresiones de los rostros 😄 Fue instalada en el museo en 1983 y fue creada por el artista Jorge Segui.
I liked this work because it made me think. As I told you, art is subjective, so it lends itself to multiple interpretations. This sculpture is called "The Family" by Marietta Berman, created in 1982, and although it doesn't appear to have a specific shape, I spent a long time analyzing it and came to the conclusion that perhaps the figure in the center is the mother, because in a certain way it reminds me of a womb with its fallopian tubes. The other figures could represent the father (on the right and slightly in front of the others, perhaps as a metaphor for protection), and the others could represent the children. What do you think?
Esta obra me gustó porque me puso a pensar, como les dije, el arte es subjetivo, así se presta para múltiples interpretaciones. Esta escultura se llama "La Familia" de Marietta Berman, creada en 1982, y aunque aparentemente no tiene una forma específica estuve largo rato analizando y llegué a la conclusión de que tal vez la figura que está al centro se trata de la madre, porque de cierta manera me recuerda a una matriz con sus trompas de Falopio, las demás figuras podrían representar al padre (a la derecha y ligeramente adelantada con respecto a las demás porque tal vez es una metáfora de protección) y las otras podrían representar a los hijos ¿Ustedes qué opinan?
This is a very pretty one, one of the ones I liked the most, it's called Pandora, made by Julio César Briceño in 1982, and in it you can see a man and a woman sitting on a swing.
Esta es muy linda, una de las que más me gustó, se llama Pandora, elaborada por Julio César Briceño en 1982, y en ella se ven a un hombre y a una mujer sentados en un columpio.
And last but not least is this incomprehensible work called "Concentration" from 1984 by Enrico Armas, and despite the fact that the name of the work suggests that it is about a crowd of people, it reminds me of a plate of spaghetti 😄
Y por último pero no menos importante está esta obra incomprensible que se llama "Concentración" de 1984 de Enrico Armas, y a pesar de que el nombre de la obra sugiere que se trata de una multitud de personas, a mi me recuerda un plato de espaguetis 😄
Honestly, I had a really nice time. I found it very inspiring. In fact, I was able to write a little while I was there, waiting for my sister. I like to write, and places like this, full of art and nature, spark a lot of interesting ideas, so I really enjoyed my visit to the open-air museum. I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as I did. Honestamente pasé un rato muy agradable, lo encuentro muy inspirador, de hecho pude escribir un poco estando allí, mientras esperaba a mi hermana, me gusta escribir y en este tipo de lugares llenos de arte y naturaleza surgen muchas ideas interesantes, así que disfruté mucho de mi visita al museo al aire libre.
