Today I want to share with you a productive and charming adventure I recently experienced as we immersed ourselves in preparations for Mother's Day at our business, Chocolates Alile. This project, born from a passion for creating sweet experiences, is taking us all over Havana in search of everything we need to offer you something truly special.
Yesterday, my day started early with my nephew. Together we embarked on a trip to the Marianao municipality of Havana, very close to the iconic Obelisk. Beforehand, we contacted a supplier of chocolate liners and aluminum foil, and after coordinating prices, we set off with great excitement. In Cuba, obtaining supplies can be a challenge, so we approached each step of this process calmly and with dedication, taking care of even the smallest details to ensure our offerings maintain the quality that characterizes us.

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una productiva y encantadora aventura que viví recientemente mientras nos sumergíamos en los preparativos para el Día de las Madres en nuestro negocio, Chocolates Alile. Este proyecto, nacido de la pasión por crear dulces experiencias, nos lleva por toda La Habana en busca de todo lo necesario para ofrecerles algo realmente especial.
Ayer, mi día comenzó temprano con mi sobrino, juntos emprendimos un viaje al municipio Marianao de la Habana, muy cerca del icónico Obelisco. Previamente, contactamos con un proveedor de capacillos para bombones y papel aluminio, y tras coordinar precios, partimos con mucha ilusión. En Cuba, conseguir suministros puede ser un reto, por lo que afrontamos cada paso de este proceso con calma y dedicación, cuidando hasta el más mínimo detalle para que nuestras ofertas mantengan la calidad que nos caracteriza.
The day was spectacular: the blue sky and white clouds offered a wonderful view as we toured the city on our motorcycles. These trips with my nephew are always special, as they allow me to discover and enjoy everything Havana has to offer. 41st Avenue, from Vedado to Marianao, captivates with its elegant buildings, each with its own history and personality. Along the way, I was able to admire some graffiti adorning the walls near 41st and 42nd Streets—street art that, although worn by time, remains striking and attractive. I love that kind of art.
El día fue espectacular, el cielo azul y las nubes blancas ofrecían una vista maravillosa mientras recorríamos la ciudad en moto. Estos viajes con mi sobrino siempre son especiales, ya que me permiten descubrir y disfrutar de todo lo que La Habana tiene para ofrecer. La Avenida 41, desde el Vedado hasta Marianao, cautiva con sus elegantes edificios, cada uno con su propia historia y personalidad. En el camino, pude admirar algunos grafitis que adornaban las paredes cerca de las calles 41 y 42, un arte callejero que, aunque desgastado por el tiempo, sigue siendo impactante y atractivo , es que adoro ese tipo de arte.
We passed iconic landmarks such as the Tropicana Recreational and Cultural Center, whose impressive sign announces this special place of Cuban culture, as well as the famous Waka-Waka, a grocery, toiletries, and fast-food store, one of the first MSMEs of its kind in the country. Further on, we arrived at the prestigious Ramón Pando Ferrer Ophthalmological Institute, better known as the League Against Blindness, and several renowned hospitals were nearby, including the Juan Manuel Márquez Children's Hospital and the renowned Maternal Hospital. Each of these locations reflects our commitment to the health and well-being of our community.
Pasamos por lugares emblemáticos como el centro recreativo y cultural Tropicana, cuyo impresionante letrero anuncia este lugar especial de la cultura cubana, así como el famoso Waka-Waka, una tienda de comestibles, artículos de aseo y comida rápida, una de las primeras mipymes de su tipo en el país. Más adelante, llegamos al prestigioso Instituto Oftalmológico Ramón Pando Ferrer, mejor conocido como la Liga Contra la Ceguera, quedando cerca de él varios hospitales de renombre, entre ellos el Hospital Infantil Juan Manuel Márquez y el reconocido Hospital Materno. Cada uno de estos lugares refleja nuestro compromiso con la salud y el bienestar de nuestra comunidad.
Finally, we arrive at the Obelisk complex, surrounded by four buildings that, with their uniform and symbolic characteristics, honor the memory of researcher Carlos J. Finlay. It's fascinating how these constructions, designed by engineer José Pérez Benitoa, all feature porticos with 10 columns of Jaimanita stone, the original name of the city at the time of its construction on the front, and gardens that capture the attention of any visitor.
Finalmente, llegamos al complejo del Obelisco, rodeado de cuatro edificios que, con sus características uniformes y simbólicas, honran la memoria del investigador Carlos J. Finlay. Resulta fascinante cómo estas construcciones, diseñadas por el ingeniero José Pérez Benitoa, cuentan con pórticos con diez columnas de piedra Jaimanita, el nombre original de la ciudad en la época de su construcción, en la fachada, y jardines que captan la atención de cualquier visitante.
After collecting the materials, we continued our route to the printer to have the cards made to complement our offerings. We also purchased paper ribbons that would add a special touch to the decorations. On the way back, we passed by the Almendares Bridge, where the views were spectacular, including a large Cuban flag that reminded me of the beauty and pride of our homeland.
Tras recoger los materiales, continuamos nuestro camino a la imprenta para que nos confeccionaran las tarjetas que complementarían nuestras ofrendas. También compramos cintas de papel que le darían un toque especial a las decoraciones. De regreso, pasamos por el Puente Almendares, donde las vistas eran espectaculares, incluyendo una gran bandera cubana que me recordó la belleza y el orgullo de nuestra patria.
It was a long but absolutely rewarding day, a mix of intense work and moments of connecting with our city and its people. Every detail counts, and at Chocolates Alile we are determined that our offerings reflect the love and effort we put into each product.
