Physical fitness is more than just an exercise. This is a foundation of a healthy, happy and productive life. Being physically fit cannot be seen only in physical aapearance of an individual. It also includes mental, emotional and social factor. As a teacher, I believe that one of the valuable lessons I can share to my students is how to take care of their bodies through a regular physical activity. Teaching physical fitness to my students is very important because they will benefit from this through lifelong habits.
Our first quarter lesson in Physical Education started with physical fitness. There are two types of Physical fitness, the health related fitness and the skill related fitness. I taught them a day before our activities in physical fitness. I discussed also about the different components of physical fitness and the types of physical fitness test.
Before we proceed to different types of physical fitness we started our warm up exercise in order to prepare their body to the activities that they will encounter. I assigned a leader to lead the warm-up exercise to boost their confidence also.
After the warm up exercise, we began one of our physical fitness test-PUSH UPS, this is under the health related fitness measuring the muscle endurance and muscle strength of each student. Push ups are a simple but effective exercise that build upper body strength, especially in the chest, shpulders and arms. At first, the students found push ups challenging but I encourage and motivate them for them to improved. I reminded them also some safety precautions before they do the said activity.
With clear instructions, my students able to perform the push ups properly. Most of them managed to follow and execute the push ups properly. I was proud to see that everyone gave their best effort.
When we finished the push-ups, our next activity is SIT AND REACH exercise. This exercise is a skill related fitness and to test the flexibility of the students. Each student will sit on the mat with their legs straight and slightly open and then they will slowly reached forward as far as they could. Some students reached far while others saw areas where they could improve. Everyone tried their best.
Following the Sit and Reach, we did the Stork Balance Stand Test. This test measures the balance and body control of the student. Each student will stood on one foot while the other foot placed on the knee while trying to stay balanced.
By combining those physical fitness tests like push-ups, sit and reach and stork stand,the students got a complete fitness experience. More importantly,they learned that physical fitness can be fun and rewarding. This is to remind everyone that doing simple exercise can make us healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
