You're totally right about that. Interactions make Hive a great community and help you grow both your account and friendships.
That's why initiatives as @commentrewarder and my own @topcomment curation initiative are created; to stimulate and reward engagement on Hive.
It moves the networking from passive to active. And when we show interest, things move into the right direction and the Hive ecosystem captures more and more attention.
By the way @friendlymoose, I want to add back @commentrewarder as Beneficiary (as I didn't use it for a long time) but I don't remember the minimum threshold for that to count. Do you know it?
