I have split units and could not be more satisfied with it.

Some might argue that takes more energy than keeping it at a lower temp consistently

I don't know if it's true honestly, but to prove it, you need a reliable study.

Funny thing is, some people are keeping temperature during summer at 17°C (62.6°F), and heat the house during winter to 25°C (77°F). Pure madness in my opinion.

That is pretty crazy. We keep our house between 73 and 75 in the summer and around 68 in the winter.

Kind of the same as me. I like to have 77 in the summer, but 68 during winter. I like cooler weather.
