Salt, water and bicycles aren't a good combination. Your bicycle parts can get rusty very quickly.
In winter they sprinkle salt on the cycling lanes here to prevent black ice, but gets into everything. I often wash my bicycle in winter so get rid of all the salt.
How nice you could replace the bracket yourself. That saved some money!
