The most fun experience I've had this year happened just last month when I visited my maternal home_ a small, peaceful community tuck away from the noise and rush of everyday life.
I had this visit planned since January. It had been a long time since I last visited there, and I was eagerly waiting for the right opportunity to go back. Finally, the perfect day came and luckily for me, my husband gave me his consent.
I made sure to enjoy each day to the fullest.
I began each day in the village without the usual worries about what to prepare for my children, which work to complete and how best to attain to my customers. My mother gladly took over those concerns, and I felt like her little baby girl once again. My only chore was to help sweep the compound in the morning and after that, am free to enjoy the rest of the day, however I want it.
I made sure to explore every corner of the village, starting with the river. I would visit the river every day with my siblings. One of my favorite moments was simply watching the little children find pure love in simple things like fishing with sticks and earthworm, splashing around and playing freely without a single care about tomorrow.
Another thing I enjoyed during my two weeks of visit was accompanying my mum to the farm. Before the trip, I had already sent her some money to help cultivate cassava, okra and other crops for me. So, while I was there, I used the opportunity to visit my portion of the farmland. It was beautiful. All the crops are doing just fine as expected.

One thing I truly admire about my maternal village is how industrious the people are. They cultivate all kinds of crops like rice, cassava, palm fruits and many other economically beneficial crops.
Oh! Before I forget, I also made sure to visit the local mills. I enjoyed watching the palm oil mill extract oil from the fruits, and I even joined in the fun by helping to crack palm kernels. It was hard work, but it felt good to be part of something real and cultural.
My stay in the village was refreshing in every way. But now, I'm back. I'm back to adulthood, back to planning meals, taking care of my kids, working long hours and completing every chores.
Still, the memories from my visit remains and I hope to visit again _when my farmland is fully ready to be harvested.
