See to be honest, this year did not exactly start with any excitement for me, but you see that first week? It gave me one of the most fun and relaxing experiences I have had in a long time, I remember it clearly me, my youngest sister, my cousin, and two of my Hive friends made plans to go swimming , It was one of those days where everything just clicked, and for a moment, I forgot all my stress and worries.
We didn’t all get there at the same time sha. Everyone arrived at different time , but eventually, we all met up at the pool ,At the reception stand, we paid the swimming fee and collected our receipts ,I was already dressed in my swimwear and couldn’t wait to get into the water ,The sun was out but not too hot, just that nice weather that makes water feel like a good.
Now, Amarachi and my cousin Abigail were scared of water like seriously fear. I laughed, I don't even know why they followed us sef if they knew they wouldn’t enter, but maybe that was part of the fun. They stayed by the edge at first, just dipping one leg and screaming as if something would drag them. I couldn’t hold my laughter, But after encouraging them small-small and showing them how to float and breathe, they began to ease themselves ,Before I knew it, they were swimming a bit , or at least staying inside water without holding my hand every two seconds, lol....
Then one of Abigail friend came to join us, and the first thing I noticed was his lips ,The guy’s lips were just shaking, and his face looked like he was freezing. I asked him, “Guy, are you cold?” and with a straight face he replied, “No o.” I just burst out laughing ,The lie was loud, Even Amarachi started laughing , But still, he stayed in the water and joined the fun, shivering and all , still funny as I am reminiscing and the day.
After we got tired of swimming and snapping pictures , we ordered catfish pepper soup and some bottles of Smirnoff Ice ,That pepper soup slapped well but it was small, especially after swimming it just hit different. We sat around chatting, eating, and just enjoying the vibe , yeah nobody was in a hurry to leave. It felt like time stood still for us.
So Later that evening, someone suggested, “Lets go see movie” and the rest of us just agreed,We weren’t ready to end the day yet ,So we all boarded a bus heading toward the market first because hunger was slowly creeping back in ,we stopped to buy some suya meat, shawarma, fruits, and more drinks for the movie, It was a whole feast, like our own mini cinema picnic.
We finally made it to the cinema, got our tickets, and settled into our seats the Lights went off, the movie started… and guess what? I slept off halfway ,I don’t even remember the title of the movie we watched that day, I swear, I just know the chair was comfortable, the AC was doing its job, and my belly was full perfect recipe for sleep, lol... When I woke up, the movie was almost over and everyone just gave me that “you missed” look. Yeah yeah. I know...
But that didn’t even matter ,What mattered to me was how peaceful and fun the day was. I did not have to overthink anything, didn’t have to worry about school, family, stress, or any of life’s wahala ,It was one of those rare days that was just about pure enjoyment and laughter.
Looking back now , I think what made the day even more special was the people I spent it with ,My sister, cousin, Hive friends everyone brought their own energy, and somehow it blended well, There was no dull moment, and it reminded me of how important it is to sometimes just let go and just have fun.
If every week of the year had one day like that, I swear, life go soft well well. It wasn’t about spending too much or doing something big, it was just about being present, laughing hard, eating good food, and being surrounded by people who make you feel at ease and that's what you call a perfect fun day.
So yeah, that is my most fun experience of the year so far, and I am very much grateful for it.
