BEYOND AUTHORITY

Hello to you community peeps, wishing you all a happy holiday, Happy Children's Day. In fact, I was telling a friend of mine that, so far, we have parents who are alive, then we should also wish ourselves a Happy Children's Day.

So, for this topic from the Hive Ghana's table, " What does Leadership mean to me?" You see, leadership does actually go beyond having titles, holding offices, or even other kinds of organisational charts. We see how our world is so wrapped around technological advancement, so much social evolution, and even with economic uncertainty, being a leader in the 21st century, you need more than just traditional power or hierarchy, you need influence, as it is said, empathy, and even adaptability. so to me being a 21st leader is about how you inspire and not how you instruct, aslo about the trust of people you are gathering, the motivation you are giving out, the kind of environment you are creating that makes people feel that that are heard, valued, and seen, etc. you see this thing called influence it is not what you get from being in a position, but your ability to connect, to communicate, you know what communication means,?, to align people to a particular common goal.

People thought that having empathy is a weakness, but hear me and hear me right, empathy is not a weakness when it comes to this modern day leadership, in fact, without it, you are nothing in the people's face, As a leader, you should be able to relate to the experiences of the people you are serving, becasue there are alot of things out there that people go through, from one thing to the other, so ypou as a leader when you dont know this things, when youncannot relate to this things, how do you want to stand in the presence of this people to tell them or assure them that you fully hear and understand them? eh?

Change is no longer something we manage in this our time, like Nah!, a 21st century leader must be able to adapt like really do, you see this change of a thing, its not something that happens ocassionally, but it is something that should happen constantly, Be it what you are doing as a leader you must be agile, ready to stand, theres nothing like being rigid in this 21st century leadership system.

I was at my friends church on saturday and, ther had a workers class, so one of the guy came like 10 mins late and the ordinator asked him to stand for thclass, i was sitting just besie where the class was going on, and when i saw this i already felt like ARRRHH! even if he came late, asking him to stand was just to much and hes like a new member just trying to undergo a class to be a bonified member of the church, in my mind i was like if it was me, mehnnn! that was the end of the class ooo, i would just decide to sit in the congregattion.

What I am trying to say is that leadership is much more than that, yes, he came late, but you should allow him to sit, he has been on the road for a while, he should have considered how tired he would be, and already he had a punishment of his name not being in attendance already, so the standing up for the meeting was just to much to me.

So let's say in essence leadership isnt destination but it is rather a journey, it is something that we practically practice on a daily basis through our actions, decisions and also our interractions, it is a commimtment to serve other, to help them grow, to lead with integrity even when no one is watching. This is what Leadership is to me.

One paramount attribute of leadership is compassion, not just that but navigating a fine blend between discipline and being compassionate. The so-called superior in your story obviously is not fit to be a leader.

I swear. I was just there sitting and thinking that if I was in this guy's position, it is to carry my bag and waka

😂

I believe there are so many leadership styles and the coordinator had to do that for a reason. Since you said it’s your friend’s church and not yours, you probably won’t know what agreement they had in church prior to that. And so far as the guy didn’t complain, I’m sure he understands.

He might arrive late as a result of traffic on the road. I see no reason why he has to stand up. And you are right too, someone who just arrived must be tired, standing up is double punishment 🤣😁

I thought so too and I felt that it wasn't worth it at all.
