Hello hivers
It's another weekly episode of the #hiveghana weekly prompt and as usual its thought provoking. The question I opted for has to do with a belief I had I kind all those years right from a tender that we believe was entirely true and would shape out future but now that belief does not hold through in our contemporary society. The belief has to do with the idea that success is solely determined by academic qualifications. No doubt education is an important factor in the life of an individual but with recent happenings, it's not a determinant feature for success.
Education is important and at the same time necessary as it empowers individuals by providing knowledge, skills, and critical thinking abilities, these attributes are important to navigate through life and make informed decisions as individual, as it allows us to see life in a different perspective and can open doors to opportunities. But breakthrough and success in life can also be achieved through other means such as entrepreneurship, vocational skills, creativity, and innovation.
For instance, in our contemporary society, we have many graduates who are not practicing or using their degrees in any way because because the society and the government has failed them. Take the content creators on social media for instance, most of them are law graduates, like Funke Akindele who was crowned the box office queen for the exceptional movie she produced called 'a tribe called judah'. She was a graduate of Law but when the society failed her she delved into acting and since then she has taken her acting career to the next level. There are so many people who have abandoned their degree and switched to their creative side so that they can make money from social medias like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and so on.
I remember back then when we would fail a subject in school and it would feel like the whole world would come crumbling down, when they made us believe that if we didn't study, we would never become something important in life and we would be useless. Some parent even enforce a course of study that suits them on their children, leaving them stranded and frustrated through the school session or just impressing people.
This misconception of education been the only way to be a fulfilled person often leads to undue pressure on individuals to pursue academic excellence at the expense of exploring alternative paths to success. Anything goes for content creation, just look at khaby lame, the Italian TikTok guy who makes a video by been silent in videos but only using gestures. He makes good money from this and is famous for it but did not need education for this success.
In conclusion, it is evident that success is not dependent a person's educational qualification but in this modern times, has to do what one has to offer.
