A colleague of mine reached out to me concerning something that happened way back in university. During those days, she was very wild. She used to say she didn’t want anything to do with a boyfriend but she had flings. Honestly it was hard to catch up with the things she did so as a friend who never judged her, she would come and unpack a lot of things on me.
Even though she didn’t have a boyfriend, she had an ultimate fling. Someone she saw as a boyfriend. Years later, they actually became best friends and then started dating. I was really happy for them because the guy was probably the most thoughtful fling out of the flings( oh this is so funny to say). After school, they got married and I was so happy for them. It was almost as if I was the one who got married.
My only problem was that, up till that time, my colleague hadn’t even seen her husband angry before and to her, he was perfect. I raised my eyebrows at first but I remembered how powerful love can be sometimes. When she called me some weeks ago, she told me she was in a very dark place and the person who sent her there was her husband. I was confused because weren’t you the same person who called him perfect some time back? It happened that my colleague had been told by the doctor to be having a condition and wouldn’t be able to conceive again.
I was shocked at first but when I heard the word again, I asked when they gave birth the first time and that answer even got me opening my mouth so wide. At the time that the guy became her main fling on campus, she got pregnant for him and then aborted it because the guy asked her to. According to her, she wanted to keep the baby but the guy said his family were going to have issues with him after finding out. As an understanding fling, she did it. Now, they are happily married yet can’t give birth because of this situation.
Shocking part? The husband threw her out of the house after finding out she wouldn’t be able to conceive and she was surprised that he didn’t care about the reason why she was in that situation. From the things she said, it looked like the man wasn’t perfect as she thought he was. He had anger issues and never hesitated to raise his hands on her. I advised her to tell her relatives first before taking anything action.
“Whatever goes around, really comes around” was the last thing she said on the call and how she regrets all that she did on campus because they were catching up with her. I know every action has its own consequences but I just wish there could be an exception in her life for just this one time. Sigh.
