"Robin Song" Artwork from Urban Decay

in Sketchbook4 months ago

Crop:

A nice simple one today which I like because this singing robin looks like it is sitting on a fence and the whole image is a macro detail of weathering on a fence. So it is a robin on a fence on a fence!

The robin's song is also one of my favourite natural sounds. There aren't many birds that sing through the European winter but the robin does and hearing it piercing the cold air on a bright, frosty morning is a tonic for the short days and generally subdued winter world. They are singing to warn other robins away because they maintain their territory all year and do not tolerate intruders.

They are, of course, also famous for being friendly if you have got food for them or are digging around the garden flushing out the bugs and worms for them to snatch. Where I come from it feels like every garden has a pair.

Full artwork:

This section of corrugated metal fence with its varied colours of peeling paint and rusty trimmings is perhaps only twenty metres long but it had so many lovely patches of weathering that I have so far created over twenty of these wildlife artworks from it. I was never expecting so many particularly as it took less than half an hour to take all the photographs. The bit where the little robin lives is right in the middle of this photograph.

At this scale it is hard to see all the lovely textural detail of the weathered paintwork. It is far more than just patches of red next to patches of white. This slightly closer shot gives a better idea of the intricate detail made up of cracks, flakes and delicate folds. A weathered old fence like this really needs to be looked at closely. So close infact that passersby will probably start edging away from you.

I wanted to have a red robin on white rather than a white one on the red background, but that only really worked by rotating the original photograph. Here it is in its real orientation without the bird.

A red robin on white background makes it so stunning, I like the art, it's so impressive 🥰🙏
