Overlooking our children's awards ceremony.

Clara remains with her mother despite coming from a "broken family"—that is, one in which the father is no longer with the mother. Every effort is made by both parents to support their daughter.

They were instructed to invite their parents to the award ceremony at Clara's school. When Clara returned home, she told her mother, who responded, "Oh, baby, I have a very important business meeting on that day." She begged her and apologized for missing her special day. The mother used her tactics to get her daughter to understand. She succeeded. This may have been simple because she longed for the father's presence (perhaps because the father rarely appeared for her in such situations). She is constantly teased by her classmates, who say things like, "You Dad will not come."

Because the mother would not be able to make it, Clara practically begged the father to come around on the day he did. The father agreed. Clara was quite pleased. The father will finally be present to witness her receive her award in a stately manner.

This was a day Clara looked forward to. And then the D-day arrived. After preparing and confirming her daughter, Clara's mother dropped her off at school. When it was time, parents began to swarm the arena and the large hall. After they had all taken their seats, the event began.

When a student is called, parents will go up on stage to celebrate with their kids. Clara's expression began to shift as she kept looking back to see if the father would simply enter or if anyone else would be on stage with her when she was called, but nobody was there. She became uncomfortable. Clara was summoned to accept her award as the winner. She walked up to the podium and accepted her award by herself, her face moody. I could sense all of her suffering. When she yelled "mommy!" and I noticed light streaming from her face, she was on the verge of tears. Immediately, her mood shifted. She rushed to the mother after throwing the award away. The mother encircled her with her hands. For me, it was a very emotional scenario.

Making ourselves available to our kids is the best thing we can do for them. For them, this is extremely meaningful and forges an unfathomable bond.

Their greatest strength is you. Show them support. Watch them succeed.

To inspire your child to achieve greatness, the third Ibom spelling bee is back. Make her realize her special talents.
