The turnaround

in The Ink Wellyesterday

Greetings!

One thing I have got to realize about life is that, “One man's food is another man's poison.” Which means what suits you might be what I hate most.

This was what I have once experienced in life. When I was growing up, most of my friends were always telling me what they wanted to become in life.

One of those my friends that came to me then told me and said,

“Sam, I would love to be a doctor later in my future.” “Wow! That's good and great of you,” I replied. “What of you Sam?” He asked. “Well, as for me, I would like to become a teacher in the near future,” I replied.

When, Femi heard this, he burst into laughter and I asked him as to why he was laughing and he responded and said,

“Sam, I'm only laughing because of your response.” “My response?” I asked. “Yes, your response,” he said.

Why on earth would you love or wish bad for yourself. He said,

“ I have never seen anyone in my entire life trying to become a teacher, you are the first that would tell me this.” “Well, maybe that can be connected to my love and passion for the job,” I responded. “Well, if that's what passion is all about, maybe passion should hold himself,” Femi said. “Haa, is it up to that?” I asked. “It's even more than that, out of the many good and professional jobs that we have, how on earth would you go for a teaching job?” He asked. “I told you it's because of my passion and there's nothing I can do about that. You cannot even convince me to drop my passion for your opinion,” I said. “If that is the case, I wish you best of luck.”

After this conversation, we both began to pursue our dreams. Femi, on getting to Senior secondary school 1, opted for the science class in pursuant of his dream of becoming a doctor in life.

I also, went to the art class as I would love to become an English language teacher. Although, being a teacher doesn't limit one to a particular class, but because I wanted to teach English, I went to the art class.

However, I didn't spend up to a session in the same school with Femi as transfer took my parents to another state.

So, when I got to Lagos state, I continued with my study and 2 years later, I sat the WASSCE examination and I passed my exam creditably well.

It's after passing my examination that I obtained Jamb form and after sitting for the examination, I passed and it's at this point that I started processing my admission and thank God I was admitted into the faculty of Education studying English and Education, my preferred course.

When I returned to the university, I met different kinds of people and it's in the course registration that I saw someone who looked like Femi from afar.

So, I rushed to meet the person that I saw from afar and to my greatest surprise, it's Femi who I saw and on seeing him, we greeted each other and it's in our conversation that he told me that he applied for medicine and surgery.

I asked him how about his registration in the college of health science, but his response was a disappointing one as he told me that he was not giving admission in the college of health sciences due to the fact that he didn't meet the cut off requirements of the college of health sciences.

He said, for these obvious reasons, he was told that his mark can only fit into the faculty of education and that if he's still interested in that year's admission, he should take the offer.

I asked him what he would now do and that was when he told me that he has already accepted to study education. When I heard this from him, I was astonished as no one, including me, would believe such a turn of events could happen to a friend who had once rubbished my intention of studying the dream course of my life, it's serious.

However, I decided not to remind him of what he had once told me about education, but there's a day that he remind me of what he had once told me and after he had reminded me, he said,

“Sam, I'm sorry for not believing in your dream, but now, I'm in your dream and I have accepted what fate has brought to me.” “That's fate and what life can bring to us.” I replied.

I and Femi began the journey together, although he wanted to cross to his dream course, but fate wouldn't permit him and we both graduated together with first class.

Femi is now working with the home state government in Osun state and I'm currently working with the Oyo teaching service commission fulfilling my purpose and I'm also happy Femi is doing well in the field.

Thanks for reading.

Life can truly surprise us, and we should never look down on another person’s passion or career choice. It’s good that both of you still ended up succeeding in the field. Thank you for sharing
