The real companion

Greetings!

One thing that I love most in life and that's really being of help to me is friendship. Ever since I started to relate with people, my life has turned to a new leaf and I can boldly say that I'm a living testament to what a healthy relationship can be.

My relationship with Ayo, a friend of mine that I met at the university, was a blessing to me. The friendship between the two of us, took me from the scratch and later made me to be a cornerstone and a being to be reckoned with in the society.

Although, I have had a series of relationships with different kinds and set of people before I met Ayo in my first year at the university.

But one thing I can say of my former relationships with others is that the relationship was a toxic one which was full of betrayals.

I could remember when Mayo, a friend of mine who I trusted with all my heart took all my money that I saved with him away.

Back then, I was working as a class teacher in one of the private school in our local community and as I was earning my money, I was also saving the money with Mayo, although not all the money, but part of the money and the purpose of me saving the money with him was to use it sponsor my university education.

There was a day I told him that,

“Mayo, I'm sure you know the reason I'm saving with you.” “Yes, I know,” he responded. “Please, don't let me regret saving with you ooo,” I replied.

So, for someone who knows the purpose of my saving with him to duped me of my money and ran away with it, then, trust became a thing of the past for me and this was because, I couldn't fulfil my dream of going to the university that year even though I was giving admission to study medicine at the university that year

This singular disappointment broke my heart, but even at that, I didn't relent on my effort to pursue my dream, but this time around, I made sure I did the savings by myself without the help of anybody or friend.

So, the following year, I sat for another UTME examination and I passed creditably well. I was happy because I passed and after the whole admission process, I was offered admission to study the same course I was offered previously which was medicine and surgery.

However, when I got to school, I decided to always maintain my lane and not to relate with anybody no matter who they were.

But there's this guy named Ayo who would not leave me alone until I became his friend. I tried all my best not to relate with him, but all to no avail.

I could remember me telling him to give me space, but even with that, Ayo was in the habit of filling the gap whenever I tried to create a space between us.

However, when I realized that Ayo would not give me the needed space, I decided to accommodate him, but I would not do that without telling him what has happened to me in the hands of a friend.

I told him about Mayo, who disappointed and betrayed my trust in him. When he had this, he was moved with emotions and he promised me saying,

“Sam, I feel for you and with what you told me, I can feel your pain and at the same time, see the reason why you have been avoiding me all these while. However, I promise you that our own relationship would not be like that.” “Okay, thanks for the understanding,” I said. “You are mostly welcome,” he replied.

After we have had the discussion, we became the best of friends and there's a day I asked him saying,

“Ayo, who do you choose to be my friend when you have other options?” “Well, I don't know, it's just that ever since I set my eyes on you, I developed this kind interest in you and that's when you were even trying to avoid me, I refused to back off,” he replied. “Hmmm, I'm happy to know you,” I said.

So, both of us continued with our relationship up till the end of our medical program in the school and I can tell you that we both sharpened our academic lives and with that, we were able to come out flying in the result and as graduated with distinctions.

It's after school that I got to know who Ayo is. When we graduated, we both went our separate ways, but at least we still get in touch with each other twice a month with me having nothing to do as I have no connection to those who can connect me to get a better job.

But one day, someone from the ministry of health called me and asked me to come over to the federal ministry of health with my credentials and on getting there after when my credentials have been thoroughly checked, I was offered job in one of the federal medical centre and that the end to my joblessness and when I asked of who recommended me for the job, behold it's Ayo's father who happened to be the permanent secretary in the federal ministry of health.

I immediately called Ayo who on hearing my voice congratulated me and refused to receive my appreciation saying we are no more friends but family as we are now more than a friend.

Thanks for reading.

Your story is nothing but a motivation for me right now. Thanks for sharing this part of your life. Much love

I find it really hard to make friends, I glad you had someone you can count on. I'd say the most important part of school is networking..
