"Who could have done this?" Jake said as he paced around his small apartment, feeling anxious and unsure of what to do.
He had discovered something disturbing that morning while cleaning his house on Saturday morning, he lived in one of the estates in his area. While cleaning his entrance door at the upper part, he spotted something tiny that he had to take a closer look at, which turned out to be a camera. It was positioned perfectly to capture anyone coming in or going out of his apartment. Jake had no idea of how long it had been there or who could have put it there.
His mind raced with questions and suspicions because he had little friends. "Wait, is it Tamina? or Precious? Is someone stalking me? They are the only ones who have access to my house even when I'm not around. Could it be any of them?", Jake kept asking himself.
"I don't think I have an enemy, or is someone trying to hurt me? Or burgle my house? Can Precious or Tamina do this to me?", all these were Jake's thoughts which he could not get answers to.
Jake was unsure of what to do or who to trust so he decided to investigate on his own. He went inside to get a stool that would help him reach where the camera was planted, and he carefully removed it from where it was planted. The camera was like a button size which had a tiny memory card slot.
"Just imagine", Jake exclaimed. "Who could have the guts to monitor my movement for God knows how long. Human beings can be so funny, what will such a person gain?" Jake asked himself, hoping the camera may contain clues about who installed it on his door; Jake removed the memory card and loaded it into his computer, and what he found sent some cold chills down his spine.
The camera contains different files, which contain the inside of his apartment from different angles, which means whoever had been spying on him had been doing that for a long documenting many aspects of his personal life without his knowledge or consent. Jake felt incredibly violated knowing a stranger had been monitoring him from hidden cameras for a long. He wasn't sure of what to do but he knew he must find out who was responsible for installing those cameras and invading his privacy. He called his friends Tamina and Precious, but they declined, having an idea of the cameras, which got him more confused.
The next day, Jake carefully began reviewing the footage which might give him a clue about who the perpetrator is. After hours of watching the disturbing recordings, a breakthrough came for him in one clip from inside his apartment. He spotted a brief glimpse of someone's reflection in a glass of a picture frame as another camera was being installed.
"Got ya, this is awesome", Jake shouted almost jumping out of his seat.
Zooming in on the reflection, Jake was able to make a distinctive facial feature which was a small scar above the right side of the eyebrow.
"Who had this scar? not Tamina; this person is a male and Precious, no, he doesn't have a scar; who then is this?" Jake began to ransack his brain to recollect who he had met with this scar. Suddenly, he remembered his next-door neighbor, Luke, who lived in a different building entirely.
Everything suddenly fell into place as Jake recalled past odd encounters and Luke's excessive friendly curiosity about his schedules and activities. Convinced Luke was responsible for the hidden cameras network spying on Jake. In anger, Jake carried his laptop and headed to the estate's security post; he showed them all the evidence, pointing at Luke. After the security successfully watched the clips, Luke was arrested for intrusion into Jake's privacy. During his questioning, Luke made it known that he was jealous of Jake and wanted to be like him, which was the reason behind his installing hidden cameras in his apartment to monitor his activities and follow suit. Luke was charged to pay a certain amount of money to Jake for his offense and he was given a stern warning not to try such again. After that, Jake no longer grants him access to his apartment ever again.
